Seen today at around 1130 near the Woodstock Junction between Morden and North Cheam, GAL Ee1. Couldn't get a photo as I was driving and have no idea what it was up to. No display on the blinds. Could be type training as that's ongoing at the moment. In my experience it's trainer's discretion on where to take the bus during those sessions, sometimes even allowing drivers to decide (within reason). Oops! I've only just realised it's Ee1 and not Me1 being referred to. A Sunday morning coffee just now helped me realise that. ;D

Hopefully Es over Optares for Sutton this. Sutton always ends up with a different type and in the case of the EVLs were not very good.

Always seems wet inside and very steamed up on bad weather days. Probably could have been remedied but being leased Go Ahead found to send them back and purchase the DOEs.

Hopefully Es over Optares for Sutton this. Sutton always ends up with a different type and in the case of the EVLs were not very good. What was wrong with the EVL’s? They had problems of leakage into the interior but other than that they were no better nor worse than the PVLs¹ and WVLs. I always thought it a pity there were never any four speed Voith nor ZF variants, baring in mind the former wasn't available when the buses were ordered. ¹ ‐ had leakage issues from the beginning, not sure about the PDLs

That was a trait of many East Lancs bodied buses of that era, Lolynes were nicknamed fish bowls on wheels. I found the EVL's as nice as other buses personally, just wish they didn't stick those vandal proof seats in.

In fact the last of them were only retired early this year. Preferred the VLEs though.

Could have been doing a preliminary route test for the Sutton routes. ITT is due to be issued very soon. Could be a clue GAL will bid with electric BYD E400 EV's for the mass Sutton teneder. Given that AL is receiving MEe's I thought these might have been selected for A too, but evidently not now.

I still wouldn't be surprised if an Electric was made to fit the MMC body. The fact that take up of the hybrid City was so small (Arriva 2 batches for the 78 and 133/333 and HCT for the 20 and 388) would suggest it was more expensive then the MMC body was. No disrespect to anyone in the area or the route but the 212 for example doesn't really need a glass staircase tbh. The City bodywork is more expensive than the MMC, but it is also easier to customise which is why it was adapted for CNG and electric vehicles - and these are typically bought with Green Bus Fund grants which offset the extra costs. The City bodywork does now have the non-glazed staircase as an option. Although City bodies are much more common than MMC for gas buses, I notice that Reading have both - City for route 17 and MMC for route 33.

there was ADL City bodies.taken outside of London as well- TfI have orders for up to 600 E400ERs with City bodywork. As someone else mentioned above, the City was slightly more expensive than the normal MMC. However, as its currently the only option for Electrics companies will have to order the City or go to Switch Mobility. Blackpool has a batch of E400 Cities - Rode these in 2019 they looked superb is the Blackpool Transport livery. I rode one last October. Arriva Wrexham and Go-Ahead Plymouth also have E400 Cities, both of which I sampled in 2018. Your username WH241 bought back memories of my penultimate London bus ride just 9 days ago.

I haven't been on any DD Electrics however I really like the BYD's from UNO.
