Yes it was a bit of a surprise for me when it was awarded as existing in 2009 as I had been thinking we would see another batch of DOEs purchased. Were DOE's available after the original order - I thought they and the SOEs were East Lancs swansong. I think your right actually. I seem to recall hearing a factory in Darwen re opened to process the order. When you think Docklands buses had those 9 Scanias for the 425 we could have seen a follow order for Sutton. Could still be a large amount of Scania Omnictys running around Sutton.

It was only the Esteem that had officially been discontinued when GAL placed their order and the SOEs were the last produced but the Olympus was still available as Metrobus had orders for the 54 and 75 albeit with a different engine. There were also some 2010 reg examples with Courtneys and if I recall Optare didn’t remove the Olympus from their site until much later after their own build chassis project was discontinued.

They conceivably may be the finest buses I have ever ridden

Optare also had the "Visionaire" which was an open-top version of the Olympus. It was mostly bought by sightseeing tour operators although in 2009 Go South Coast (were they called that then?) bought three part-open top (1401-1403) and six convertibles (1404-1409) for its "Breezer" routes around Bournemouth and Poole; as well as three Olympuses (1410-1412), all on Scania N230UD chassis. 1401-1403 are now with Southern Vectis as "Island Breezers" but the remainder are still at Poole, now in standard "More" livery except 1412 which carries a heritage Hants & Dorset green livery.

Honestly not sure, I assume it was but given Optare were in the process of developing their own Mercedes engined chassis and the short lived Optare Rapta around the same time it’s possible the Olympus with ADL E400 chassis was a one off for GAL, just like the Esteem with ADL E200 chassis.

It was, but AFAIK the only one ever built was the one CT Plus ordered for the W13 (EO1 - PN08 SWJ) which required one d/d for schools journeys - in practice it spent most of its time on the 388. In which case Go Ahead may dodge a bullet for now and the choose for 2 or 3 routes to be hybrid (80/151/154) with just the 93 and then a few months later the 213 awarded with new electric. Realistically its probably close to next year that the 132 will be up and running with according LOTS reporting that FW and SO are still not upgraded and BN about to start. The fact that the LU garages still aren't done does show why TFL probably are keener now to do an entire garage rather then one route here, two routes there etc. I predict the 80 will use MHV's, 151 use EHV's after 135 lost and 93/154 electrified. The 213 would be lost to FW. A could completely electrify the garage.. would be interesting

Darwen was the name of the company that bought East Lancs when it went bust, Darwen was based in Blackburn and not the town of Darwen.
The company Darwen then bought Optare, and renamed the new merged company Optare which is why the DOEs and SOEs were coded as Double Optare Enviro and Single Optare Esteem. The SOEs were the last of Esteem bodies bulit in 2009 but the last Optare Olympus was built in 2011 - YJ11EMV a Volvo B9TL for Imperial, Colnbrook.

Do you think the Spare MHV's from the 63 could replace the Doe's at Sutton or send 10 to putney to fully convert the 22 to MHV's and send the WHV's from that to the 131 to replace 10 of the WVN's Personally what I would want to happen is for double decker routes to be given hybrids.. Most likely A would just electrify.. but who knows, not me!

Many other garages are still potentially some years off
