TFL has recently launched a campaign to encourage considerate behavior on London's transport system. There are a lot of issues to tackle, from blaring music out loud to letting people off the train first. So if anyone has something to rant about, feel free to discuss.

That campaign has been running, in poster form anyway, for some time on our local buses. None of the chavs pay a blind bit of notice, especially the chavettes, with their feet on the seats. With discarded cans and food containers, I normally wait until they are about to leave and call out in a VERY loud voice 'excuse me, you've left something behind' As they turn round to look, the offending items are normally by then travelling towards them at a great rate of knots. Usually good for a laugh for other passengers. children: do not try this at home, or if their is a likelyhood of excess drink/food spilling out, or if the yob concerned is bigger than you! ;D ;D ;D

Well this seems like the ideal topic to report one of my observations from yesterday... Yesterday, I was on a Bendy on route 25 at Bow, and apart from watching all the people jumping on without paying, I saw this old man that was sitting at the front of the vechile, nothing odd about that. But what happened next really shocked me, he was coughing and hacking loudly and then he spat on a boy's trousers without any apology at all I just cant belive that some people can have such little regard for their fellow passengers, and how some people can have such poor habits at this time when personal hygeine should be at a maximum due to swine flu etc etc.

Closer to home, the French are not unknown to spit here and there (but perhaps they can be excused if they smoke those disgusting Galois cigarettes ;D). You still see 'defense de cracher' (no spitting) as much as 'defense de fumer' (no smoking) on walls in public areas in France. Even in this country today, many immigrants from Asia bring this disgusting habit with them! As you were travelling on the 'refugee special', there is a fair chance that most of the other passengers do not understand or read english.

It's one of my 'phobias', HATE to see people do it, so I tend to notice such things more closely than I would otherwise! We COULD start by fining professional footballers who do it!

I do like to stay clean myself, and i really do hate it when such people continue unhealthy habbits. As this swine flu gets worse, such people may eventually make public transport unusable if it gets too dirty.

That's something that I'm not very proud of (they're a disgrace IMO ), but for me it's not too surprising. Having been to China a few times, the majority of people spitting around me was high at a ratio of around 1 in 8. With this 'pandemic' happening, the authorities over there are strictly discouraging people from spitting. I've heard that it's taken much more seriously in Singapore with the use of enormous fines.

Speaking of other things, there is one issue that really bugs me (but supposedly nobody): Staring. Some people would briefly give you eye contact for 1/2 a second. For me, it sometimes would get out of control. Whenever I'm on a bus or tube, there's always one individual who is suspiciously staring at me (for what reason who knows). The most recent event happened last week while travelling on the Victoria line from Brixton. The carriage that I was on had only 4 people in it including me. While reading my newspaper, I kind of felt this rather suspicious aura around me. Looking to the right from the corner of my eye, I saw this old guy standing still in front of the door in the next carriage glaring; and from that point I literally jumped in fear. He stayed in that creepy position up until the train arrived at Stockwell which he then sat down. I mean that felt like if I was starring in a horror film or something, which totally scared the blinking life out of me. Some people these days are either very random or utterly p***-taking. Luckily, this happened before the afternoon rush hour. If it was something like 11pm, I would be scarred for life. ;D

That annoys me as well I must add. Normally find it's the 30-something women going to/from work or leisure activities that give me the treatment. There I'd be reading my newspaper (like you) and she'd be sitting in the seat more-or-less opposite me, just staring at me for ages. I might as well be sitting there with 20 eyes or something Even more annoying is that it's usually the attractive ones which means while they're staring at me I can't glance at them back ;D Occasionally I get male passengers doing this, and when that happens it just becomes really unnerving. The thing that bugs me on public transport is when people who are near each other have to shout at each other just to talk. Not so much on the Underground as that is loud itself so that's understandable but on buses and trains, you don't need to as they ain't that loud. Its annoys me to the core in the same way people playing music on the bus annoys me. Why can't they just wear headphones, it's not hard and they ain't expensive either.

Believe it or not, it occasionally happens on a packed bus on a rush hour too! Plus there was one time on the 341 when 2/3 of the upper deck literally ganged up on a few yobs like an angry mob, and sent them flying off the bus just because of that!
