Would have put this in the mayoral election thread, but I understand some members might not want to read that thread but I think this will be interest to everyone. Purdah starts on the 22nd of March 2021. While during a general election Purdah doesn't tend to affect TfL day to day, it is much more likely to do so during a mayoral election. "Bombshell" tenders are usually not announced during a mayoral election Purdah. Notably all the results announced during Purdah 2016 were all retains so while they still get announced it's nothing special. We're probably also unlikely to see any major consultations released or responded to during this time. What’s Purdah? It's a period 6 weeks before an election where any governmental organisations, or organisations related to the election (in this case TfL) falls under, meaning they have to remain impartial. Meaning major changes are unlikely to be announced as it could influence views on Khan, while Bailey does not has such tools to his disposal.

The crazy wooden planters still block parking bays and a bus stop cage in Orpington High Street to enable social distancing for customers of the closed cafes. At long last however the offensive EU stars have been removed from the blocks. Displaying the symbol of a currently very unfriendly foreign power was never appropriate.

I'm surprised that no-one has yet commented on the Budget, which saw fuel duty frozen yet again - for the tenth consecutive year running - in the same week that rail fares were increased by an inflation-busting 2.6% on average. The Department of Transport spoke of traffic reduction and modal shift in last year's "Decarbonising Transport: Setting the Challenge"; although clearly it's a challenge the Government has no intention of rising to. Fuel duty may be frozen, but other prices are on the high, it isn't as if the petrol is cheap to start with, the many other taxes on it still nets the government a very high amount compared to many other countries, especially as we are an oil producing nation. IIRC before any taxes or duties has been put on fuel, we would have been the 3rd cheapest in the world, but after everything has gone into it, we then end up being the 4th most expensive in the world, laughable.

Most off the Greewich one way system is down to one lane for social distancing-not no one about!! It's bloody madness...

In the past routes used to have pubs as a destination for there terminus like Greenford Red Lion, Tottenham Swan, Sudbury Swan and etc but now this trend has seemed to have disappeared as example Greenford Red Lion became Greenford Broadway and Sudbury Swan became Sudbury and Tottenham Swan became Tottenham High Street I think (can any locals correct me if I’m wrong) Are there any terminus that still use pubs as destinations or are they long gone?

Using pub names is a throwback to horse bus days. The London General Omnibus Company and other operators terminated routes at pubs, where they could get water and hay for the horses. In recent times though, where pubs have not been closed completely, they are often renamed something trendy. This is why TfL has largely dropped the use of pub names in destinations, as they are liable to become inaccurate or irrelevant.

This is why TfL has largely dropped the use of pub names in destinations, as they are liable to become inaccurate or irrelevant. TfL do still seem to have a habit of naming destinations after supermarkets though, most in recent history seem to have remained as they are. Although it does always throw up an interesting case when the shop gets changed or renamed. I remember when Savacentre had its BHS shareholding taken over fully by Sainsburys and the store was rebranded as a Sainsburys, those ALX200s on the 325 still had Savacentre on their displays all the way until the contract change in 2010, while the 366s ALX200s had those displays all the way until the buses were replaced with the Enviro200s in 2011. TfL did rename the Beckton Asda terminus to Beckton Station around 2010 when the bus station opened, had a funny situation on the blinds of the 366s ALX200s then when following the extension to the station the buses would go around with "East Beckton, ASDA" on their blinds, despite the fact the Asda wasn't actually in East Beckton, it ended up being another trait that stuck around until the Enviro200s took over from the route in 2011. You also had Ilford, Sainsburys which was changed to Ilford Broadway in 2008, although the blinds for Sainsburys kept popping up on various buses all the way until 2015 with some NS Tridents!

Beckton Asda used to be known as East Beckton District Centre for many years. When Savacentre opened, it was known as Beckton Savacentre giving a pretty unique situation of a terminus called "East Beckton" being actually further west than "Beckton." When the 262 was extended to Showcase Cinema, I'm pretty certain they displayed "Beckton Showcase Cinema" which is even further west of "East Beckton" It was only in recent East Beckton became Beckton and Beckton became East Beckton
