With buses not being refurbished during contract term as long as the current bus is in good condition then personally I don't really see it as much as problem, however a blind is literally there to show people where the bus is going to so very important. It's a fair point about we don't know the finer details but I'm sure you would admit that two years is a very long time not to get this sorted no matter what the issue? Maybe it is a RATP issue as 419 took nearly a year until they got blinds for Roehampton, galwhv69 posted many times on the incorrect blind thread about this problem. I do not think that route should have got an extension sorry if my post comes across as harsh but to me running a good service goes behind performance level. I've witnessed people stand at a bus stop and not put their hand out as bus had no blind at all and then afterwards realise they have missed the bus they wanted to catch how is that allowed to happen? It has happened on other routes. Routes 147 and 241 were cut back at various times for 4 years during in Crossrail works but buses still showed Keir Hardie on the front blinds despite not serving these points.
The N72 is way outside on my local area but assume the buses still show a correct destination? I think displaying 72 is not as bad as no number at all or incorrect destinations / points severed.
Oh yes I'm sure it has happened on other routes when I said it might be a RATP problem I didn't mean exclusively, some members have mentioned DX having similar issues I believe. That is correct buses are still showing Roehampton and East Acton and I'd agree showing the correct destination is more important however the number for the route is N72 and that needs to be used.

More of a general bus question here but I’ve been around Plymouth for the last week on holiday and I’ve noticed Plymouth Citybus have a batch of 08 reg Enviro200’s with similar sounding Cummins engines to a Euro IV Enviro400. I believe the 08 reg Hotel Hoppa batch also had the same engine but I’m not sure if any other E200’s had this engine.
Does anyone know why these E200’s were fitted with these engines rather than the standard Cummins engine they normally have and were there any other batches delivered with an E400 engine other than the ones I’ve mentioned?

Shocked to hear the speeds are quite this bad, though probably doesn't take into account the time taken when stopping at bus stops. However, the congestion can be particularly bad along Piccadilly. If the 414 is to stay in the long term, I think it might be work swapping the termini at Putney - cutting the 14 back to Putney Bridge might improve reliability at the Russell Square end. Most links would be maintained, plus the 14 & 414 have the same frequency. While perhaps unlikely with the traffic concerns in the article, I also think it could be very useful to extend the 14 to Euston or Kings Cross, which would provide a bus link from these stations to the West End (serving the area between Trafalgar Square and Oxford Street).

Exact same thing is happening with the N27. Abellio only ever display 27 and even on the list of routes on their website it says the 27 is 24 hours.
I once travelled from Putney Bridge to the Notting Hill area on an N72 and N27 when both were wrong! Thankfully the N33 is correctly blinded.
Information should be accurate and consistent, especially when buses only operate every 30 mins - there's no good reason why they cannot be correctly blinded by now.

One thing that is really starting to annoy me when using the 4, 19, 236 & 263 is the endless number of yellow crossings between Balls Pond Road & Finsbury Park Station. It is really frustrating particularly during the day on an empty road when you're trundling along and you always end up stopping due to the ridiculous number of them. IMO some of them would be better suited to traffic lights. And even then some of the traffic lights are annoying, for example the one at the top of Blackstock Road in junction with Rock Street, you just pass the one by The Twelve Pins when leaving Finsbury Park Station and then you immediately enter a new set of traffic lights right by the junction with Rock Street.
Another example would be Picadilly on the 14/19/38 towards Putney/Battersea/Victoria. I've been on board those routes round Picadilly Circus Station and you can honestly see them sprint across the junction, not helped massively by the extremely high frequency on the 38 where they end up blocking the junction and you see the 14s and 19s waiting behind trying to get across.
I was surprised to see the traffic lights at Blackstock Rd just after Rock St. Now completely pointless since most of the side roads are shut so, then hardly any traffic comes from them. I remember 10 years ago when Boris said there was too much traffic lights in London and some could be removed, he was right. Surely it is also a waste of electricity which people do not realise.

I think some popular zebra crossings should be converted to traffic lights and the underused ones killed off. It's extremely annoying in a car and a bus when you continuously have to stop.

Entirely disagree with this - zebra crossings should be used more in places where a traffic lights has been placed but is underused - capitalomnibus is spot on when he says there is too many lights and I also remember Boris saying that too, another thing to come out of his mouth that he ended up not acting upon. Most popular zebra crossings have already been replaced by traffic lights anyway

I think some traffic lights could be replaced by zebra crossings but any attempt to remove any crossings completely will inevitably run into local opposition.

My main point is there are a load of unnecessary zebra crossings between Highbury & Finsbury Park but would now agree with you on conversions from normal zebra crossings to traffic lights.

They’ve updated the Sidcup spider map in the modern style with the arrow showing ‘continues to Bromley North’ for example. It’s awful.

I understand if it's for night routes or longer routes that can't fit all the main stops but when it's just regular routes that did have all the main stops and replaced with an arrow is just laziness

The older spider maps were a lot better and clearer to follow plus they showed every bus stop for 1 or 1 and a half miles from the center.

I’d do a better map for them for free if they let me.
