Guys great news I be coming to UK on 05th November for 1 week.. Beijing-Hong Kong with Hong Kong Airlines, Hong Kong - London with Virgin Anyway need suggestions for where to go riding for a day, I don’t care where, I just want fun。 If any of you guys come to China I enclose a travel guide to use services, even not coming it’s worth a read... www.travelchinaguide.com/china-trains/Interesting timing on your visit. I would suggest spending 1 day doing some journeys that wouldn’t be possible soon after your trip whilst taking in the sights of Central London: Start at Paddington Station: 23 to Aldwych (due to be rerouted to Hammersmith at a date tbc in November Then a short walk to Covent Garden terminus of the RV1 to Tower Gateway (probably not going to be around in 2019) 78 Tower Gateway to Liverpool Street Station (no good reason except to catch an Enviro 400H City) 11 - Liverpool Street Station to Fulham Broadway (due to be cut back to Victoria in 2019) 391 Fulham Broadway to Hammersmith (due to be withdrawn between Fulham and Hammersmith in December) 10 Hammersmith to Kings Cross (due to be withdrawn at a date tbc in November) There are many places worth actually getting off the bus and visiting on this itinerary. Unfortunately I can’t really help you with interchange points such as Liverpool Street Station as TfL have made so many changes recently and they no longer produce local area bus maps. I recommend downloading the CityMapper app ahead of your trip to help with walking between bus stops. Also if you have never ridden an original routemaster in London then I would also suggest catching an RM in the 15 between Trafalgar Square and Tower Hill. This may be the last Autumn you will be able to catch one of these buses in regular service. Thanks for your advice, I’m a London Boy born and bread, I know London back of my hands and worked for Westbus, but decided a change and moved to China, 3 years ago! I just want to experience good journeys, don’t care on where to go, not interested in sights, just what’s new in town and what’s changed? I know this is a vague question and bring many answers...

So I'm coming to the end of my 16+ Free Travel Oyster Card next month and will be leaving London to go to University in West Yorkshire very soon, and was just wondering, what Oyster Card do I apply for next? I don't think I'll be eligible for the 18+ Photocard as I won't be studying in London or living at a London address during term time, will only be back here during the holidays and on certain weekends, so will it be the bog standard Oyster that I will have to use next? Definitely not looking forward to losing free bus travel though, I'd probably have to use the bus less than I do now, and it'll probably mean no more travelling on rare workings . It was great fun while it lasted though, and made the most of it that I could, and hopefully it won't be long before I return to London to work in the industry somewhere.

You won't be applying for an Oyster card unfortunately That said the 18+ Oyster is still full price for Pay as You Go so you won't be missing much. Outside Term Time I use my photo card as an average PAYG card anyway and just use the car more often.

Looks like adult Oyster Card for you. Still if you end up paying commercial bus fares in West Yorkshire [1] you'll almost die of relief at *only* paying £1.50 back in London. [1] good old First Bus and Arriva Yorkshire most likely.

Lol Yes, but! I've had my bus pass since I was 60, and it's been automatically renewed twice since, but the photograph on it shows an amazingly virile looking man for his age with scarcely a grey hair, whereas the reality at age 70 is somewhat different i.e. the same photo gets recycled. Now, perhaps if I'd changed gender in the interim...

Now, perhaps if I'd changed gender in the interim... I decided I had to get my staff pass photo changed as it was the same snap as when I started with LT. Needless to say the years haven't been kind. I once had a gruelling encounter with RPIs on the Overground who looked at the photocard and decided it wasn't me! I stood my ground and eventually managed to persuade them nothing was amiss bit it was not pleasant. Now my photo aligns all too vividly with reality so challenges should not occur.

I’ll be going to Huddersfield so you’re right, First, Arriva and Yorkshire Tiger operate there, my local route will be operated by First Yorkshire (unfortunately) but I hear some ex TC DW’s with Yorkshire Tiger (DW23/DW26/DW33/DW34) regularly visit there, so hopefully I’ll see one when I’m up there and maybe get a ride. London fares are so much better, as me and 725DYE found out last week, paying £5.20 just to get a Metrobus service between Banstead and Reigate!!

Lived in Halifax, but Huddesfield just down the road and nicer, for 4.5 years ... and still go up their regularly .. if you going less than 3 miles and 2 of you, get a cab it is cheaper!

What a coincidence, I’m no longer living in London at all and won’t be visiting London for awhile, and moved to Leicester as a result. Arriva Midlands being my local company, and haven’t heard anything good or bad from them.

Been a few years since I was last in Huddersfield but yes Yorkshire Tiger (Arriva in disguise) do have a varied set of vehicles there. To be frank some of their vehicles were a bit shocking. There's also K-Line in Huddersfield who were smaller scale but looked to be a bit better presented. As ever First's fleet is a mixed bag - some nicer buses but many that were not in good shape. Arriva Yorkshire operate a couple of smart trunk services into Huddersfield. At least WY Metro still publish a bus map so you stand some chance of knowing where the buses run. I suspect you'll be spending more time on trains than buses if travelling about - all that student distraction in Leeds and Manchester!!

The Daily Express can't really be relied on for decent journalism! Yes, like you say bus operators are mostly just reacting to decline. The main factor in declining High Streets is definitely online shopping and out-of-town retail - buses are helping our high streets survive rather than the opposite. Although I would say in some cases bus cuts are having a minor effect, particularly in smaller market towns. Market day bus services, main rural routes, etc have been cut back or withdrawn in many places, which then forces some of those passengers to shop elsewhere or start shopping online (or, getting a family member or friend to shop for them), as it would be easier and cheaper than trying to find a way to get to a nearby town centre.
