You mean Loose. Tramlink has never made or profit or even broken even. It needs several million a year in subsidies just to keep it going On what criteria do you make this claim? On the basis of the accounts

On the basis of the accounts Whose accounts? TfL's accounts. TfL's accounts arent much of a pretty sight at the moment. Theyre in the process of selling East Thames Buses, not because they want to but becaues it was suggested to the board that they may need to, so they have, based on what savings TfL could make as a result of the sale. Put it this way, TfL are getting £5 Million from Go-ahead for ETB. in return over the next 5 years TfL would save over £30 million in running costs (over £3,300,000 a year), money that could and no doubt will be invested into more transport improvements and developments across london.

Most probably four(or more) of the first Edinburgh trams to arrive will be taken to the Therapia Lane depot. It is not known if they will be used on Tramlinks routes just for testing or will carry passengers. This is caused because the depot in Edinburgh will not be built by the time the first few trams are ready. Source of information?

This is caused because the depot in Edinburgh will not be built by the time the first few trams are ready. Source of information? Panthro. This has been around for a month or so ... plenty of articles from Croydon and Edinburgh can be found on the web about this. The Edinburgh tram is experiencing major delays, all except for the delivery of trams, which CAF are making them take delivery of as per contract. The depot is not build and they have nowhere to store them, so seeking a deal with TfL to store the first 4 at Therapia Lane. They are also talking about undertaking testing mileage around Tramlink, but do not think there are any plans to use them in public service

They need to spend money in order to make money. Just think of the amount of revenue they would make out of this extention. ? Tramlink looses huge amounts of money

If Tramlink is losing money shouldnt the service be withdrawn all together?

If Tramlink is losing money shouldnt the service be withdrawn all together? If we worked on that basis, the majority of public transport in this country would be withdrawn.

If Tramlink is losing money shouldnt the service be withdrawn all together? That is the dumbest thing that I have ever read on this board. Public transport isn't meant to be a money making exercise, it is meant to provide transport for the public. Sure it isn't good if it operates at a loss (or too big a loss) but if it does there are a number of other non fiscal costs that need to be taken into account. With Tramlink the service and the idea is great. There should be more of it in London, even if it does cost money, not less.

And the taxpayer ended up pouring £millions into trains and buses every year. Good one blue!
