Haha thanks Mike, I actually done my GCSEs last year and got good results from them last year. I failed english and science with D's so my sixth form let me and others retake english and do the test again which i did earlier this summer. The school dont really care about science as most jobs dont require it. So after my 2nd attempt on the english test i passed with a C

There's no point in rushing into something that you'll later regret, especially when you'll be in debt for it. I left college and decided not to go uni. Spent 3 years bumming in a number of jobs until i felt the time was right to go. Everyone wants something different vjaska, you'd think so but the amount of formulae required to use to answer questions is absolutely ridiculous!!!

I hate the thought of a further 2yrs of education as this sixth form has put me off lol but then i think that i will get something good out of it. Then i ask myself do i really want a job in the media industry (tv side not newspapers) but at the moment i dont know what job interests me. I know ive said before id want to be a bus driver at some point but just incase i dont like it then i have other places to go with a media degree. I think my most likely course of action will be to go ahead with uni just incase i change my mind later in life so that i dont regret it. I wont get into debt mate as my dad is on income support so you tax payers pay the full price for me As ive said to Mike aka Greeny before i never want to be on income support as i want to earn money for myself!!

If you're not sure what job interests you I would personally hold off going to uni until you've got a better idea. Then you can make a more informed choice of what degree to take. I did Economics, on the grounds that it was my best subject at A level and I didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted to do. After leaving uni, I've spent the last 12 years as a bus driver! Perhaps if the media interests you you could see if there are any jobs going in the industry at post-A level level. Then if you find it's for you, you could go on to do a degree in it. If you're lucky, you might find an employer who will contribute, or employ you while you study. On the other hand, jobswise, there's not much around whether you've got a degree or not at the moment, so that's really a good reason to do a degree as it fills in some time till things (hopefully) pick up. And in the long term graduates will do better than non-graduates, unless you get sucked into a life on the buses of course! All I can say is I'm glad I'm not leaving school/college right now.

I'm with owen76. I felt EXACTLY the same as you did back when i was 17 and i don't regret a single thing i did personally. I know if i had gone to uni when i was 18, i would never have stuck it out. However, it's your choice at the end of the day. Also, i get the full allocation of grants/loans from the student loan company too. Unfortunately for you, it doesn't work out the same way as EMA (never had that when i was at 6th form ) Basically you still have to take out the Tuition Fee Loan, which will vary depending on which uni you go to. I know i pay just over £3,000 p.a, not sure on what Insert pays. Also, when you apply for your loan (which is very, veryt complicated yet shouldn't be) you SHOULD be allocated around £5,500 for the year, of which around 60% is made up of a grant where as the remaining 40% will still be a loan. I only know this because it's income assessed and seeing as my mum earns around £700 per month, i get the full quota of money for myself ;D

Re: tuition fee loans, I pay around the same amount as you John. Noticed it's gone up a bit this academic year compared with 2008/09 (well at least for me it has). Aaron I was also thinking about the media industry when I was your age. Thing is, as you know, there isn't exactly many jobs going around; this may still be the case if you go to uni and complete your degree, but I was told by my mum that this is especially the case with the media industry, in that there isn't much going at the moment She's an advisor at the Jobcentre so I took her word for it... But as has been said on here, its your choice, just do what suits/benefits you. Though as owen76 said it might be a good idea to do one so you have something to fall back on.

Your best bet is to look for a job, even if it's just Saturday work to make a little bit of money. Some supermarkets and high street shops (I know WH Smith are still looking for people) still have job vacancies so always good to try them. I was lucky to get my job last year as someone who worked there got it for me and it was just before the credit crunch too. And no, Brixton Iceland has none from what I gather ;D Btw, it's the busiest Iceland in the whole of the U.K.

Sorry for the late response. Firstly thankyou to those who have helped/guided me. Well the mood im in now i would probably go ahead with University because as you say i can fall back on the degree later in life if all else fails job wise. My tutor has also said about the lack of jobs in the media industry but he recons it will pick up the time weve finished studying. To be honest i wouldnt really care if i studied Media and got a degree and never used it in life. My tutor was in the media industry but he gave it up and became a teacher simply because the hours were ridiculous and he had a new family. Him saying that does make me think i could be the same when im a bit older but it wouldnt really bother me if i had to give up a media job that ive studied for so long. Regarding about getting a job lol. Dont say i havent thought about it as this summer has made me really think about things. I have been bored this summer because last year i had a job and gave it up because i hated it but because many other people of my age have jobs, i find i have nothing to do some of the time and i do miss working with the public lol Money wise by getting a job i could save up for things i might need in the future such as maybe moving to a flat or something when i do eventually to decide to leave home and i could spend it more on drink and luxuries

Not to put a dampener on things by any means, but the degree you choose at university does not necessarily allow you to get a job in the industry you like.
I found this especially hard to take when I had worked three years of my degree to get into the transport industry - and I had the perfect degree to take into the interview with me. I thought 'What would an employer want more than someone who has a First in Travel Management (joint with Marketing) with a lot of transport modules to the record?'.
The answer was that I needed a reality check. They did find that impressive, don't get me wrong. But basic questions like how I tackled difficult team players and what my weaknesses were caught me by surprise. Oh, and they also expect you to have worked while you were at uni as they just weren't buying the reason "I didn't work because I had sufficient financial backing and I wanted to concentrate on my education to do the best I possibly could".
So a First Class degree isn't everything - if you can back it up with experience (and know how to tackle nasty interview questions as well as stressful assessment centres), then you're good to go. Plus that extra bit of confidence on interview day is needed ;D
