Well, in two months and one day we have added a grand total of 5,000 new posts! Today, we see the 85,000th post on The Bus Forum. That's an average of over 80 posts per day, or about one every sixteen minutes, day and night, seven days a week. By comparison, a well known transport forum elsewhere manages just one post every six hours! R.I.P. ;D Great going, 100,000 now well in sight!

When I first read this thread (only just discovered it now) I was thinking 'bloody hell, how does Bighat manage that in such a short space of time?!' - then realised it could only have been referring to the forum post count - well done The Bus Forum!
By thunder, I don't see Bighat complaining about the quality of posts now (which, though I haven't 'investigated' at great depth, have probably been pretty good lately)?! ;D ;D ;D

I'd happily see the post count drop rather than a poll about if you prefer round or square headlights or some poo like that.

Oh, I am 100% with you on that! ;D ;D ;D I had not even thought about it in that context when I posted, but, yes, I too support that point of view! Thought you might!!! I find myself clicking the "mark as read" button quite a lot after reading only a few threads. Sometimes weather I read a thread depends on who started it and who was the most recent reply. There is some people on here who have a post count in the thousands but have never talked about anything other than the colour of handrails or saying a random make of bus are poo without too much sense to back it up. "they are poo" "oh why do you say that?" "cos they're poo" "but in what way" "well they're just poo arn't they" "I give up" Having said that I also don't bother reading some threads about some areas, for instance I know nothing about East London/Essex. So discussions about this area are just a list of road names and numbers that mean nothing to me. I have driven GY routes but being from the other side of the water I have no idea where there serve or the road names I just know where they turn left and right!! Thats always a giggle when people get on and say "Do you go to...?" They always look worried and get back off when the driver tells them "I've no idea where I'm going"

Thats always a giggle when people get on and say "Do you go to...?" They always look worried and get back off when the driver tells them "I've no idea where I'm going" And there was me sitting here thinking I was in a minority of one! Actually, there ARE a number on the forum whom have a similar viewpoint, but like you, tend to ignore the posts and not comment. For my sins, I have in the past expressed my views on the, what i consider both pointless and mindless longest/shortest/biggest/smallest/roaring/revving types of thread, but 'the management' do not approve of this as it tends to make all the posters to this kind of thread get out of their prams and throw things! So, nowadays, I try to ignore them. It's a pity, because I do think it dumbs down the intelectual level of the forum, not that I mind a laugh and a joke, but to actively start such a thread says what about the mentality of its contributors? This of course, is my personal opinion. Others may think otherwise. (Have to say that nowadays to be totally PC!) I do not use the thread read facility, as I DO read each and every single thread posted. The punch marks on my office wall due to frequent head banging will support this! ;D ;D Whilst on the topic of total posts, although our membership levels show over 700, are members aware we have over 450 persons who have 'joined' but never posted? Of these, over 30 joined in a very short period in June/July last year. Bearing in mind our previous problems with mischief makers, once again it seems to have reared its ugly head, judging by recent admin comments. Amongst this number are certainly at least TWO people who are hell bent on plagiarising information from this, and similar forums, as well as possibly 'stealing' active members by e-mail approaches. I have discussed this with our forum admin, but they seem reluctant to do anything to curtail the activities of these non-contributors. Perhaps it is time to remove all these inactive members from our midst, they contribute absolutely nothing, so why let them stay? Such action MAY disenfranchise one, maybe two, genuine shy members, but that is a small price to pay for forum security!

I certainly agree with you both - some of the things posted are pure tosh with nothing to back them up. The likes of I hate Metroline because their buses are dirty. I seem to spent picking up on all the faults over the network. I have certainly noticed the numbers of people who join then don't post which seems a shame - whats happended to night47 and 469king these days (or is he railrep1 now). Thought you might!!!
