I think this has been done many times on this forum...but anyway I know a few ;D Liverpool Street - Wide variety of operators here; First, Metroline, East London, CT Plus, Go-Ahead (East Thames and London General), Arriva. I can spend ages at the bus station just watching the world go by. (btw the bus station is better than the Broadgate entrance IMO) Romford - One of my favourites. great variety (there was much more in the past though), with different operators and a large amount of different bus types which are always interesting to see. The bus station is conveniently placed by loads of shops. ;D Loughton - Not sure this would appeal to everyone, but I think its great!. Its out of the TfL zone, but still features frequent well used TfL services (20, 167, 397, 549). I'm still amazed that such a low route number (20) is used for a service so far out of central London. There is also many commercial operations (and Essex CC contracts), so I think this is a great mix here. Out of London, I think Harlow is a great place to go. There are buses coming and going very often from the bus station, with a colossal amount of different operators, liveries, bus types and different destinations. Also, Walthamstow and Chingford are places I often go. I'm sorry I haven't suggested anywhere away from North East London If your looking for somewhere similar to Aldwych, there are plenty of places to go in central London....I just go for any main terminus.

You could try Brixton. Only 25-30 mins by bus or 10-15 mins by tube from the centre of London and you get a few interesting types as well. However, shield and bayonet is required ;D

Seeing that you don't want to go too far out, I recommend Wood Green (Arriva galore ), Stratford and Canning Town.
