Wasnt sure where to put this...Redbridge Transport doesnt operate London buses, but does operate in London..so...
Ive noticed Redbridge Transport has a high presence. Ive noticed it around Woodford Green (near Trinity/Bancrofts/Woodford Girls schools etc etc). Ive noticed they hang around the bus stops here not really doing anything....and i hardly ever see any passengers.
Obviously, they mostly do school transport, but what are these buses doing around here? Also, many of the school duties seem to be operated by other companies such as Logic Transport, West Coaches, and the London Buses school routes (679, 657 etc)

Also, many of the school duties seem to be operated by other companies such as Logic Transport, West Coaches, and the London Buses school routes (679, 657 etc) Redbridge Transport works as an autonomous in-house contractor and service provider to the London Borough of Redbridge. Apart from maintaining all council owned and operated vehicles (buses, trucks, vans and cars) it offers servicing facilities to the general public! The fleet of buses and minibus operated by the department provides scheduled pupil movements to and within the borough for children to get to and from school. For extra curricular activity transport (both for children and disabled adults), they have to compete with commrcial operators should the school decide to put it out to tender (as the money to pay for it comes from the education or health budgets). One of the major competitors for such work is Wests Coaches and Dans Luxury (?-have you seen some of their fleet ) Travel. They operate from the council depot in Ley Street, and also use part (the maintenance bays) of the old Ilford Tram/Trolleybus depot, which, even in LT days, was always owned by the council, since the original tram operation was a council run enterprise until 1933. As for the proximity to Woodford Green, Redbridge was formed out of the Borough of Ilford and the Boroughs of Wanstead and Woodford, in 1964. Redbridge's boundary reaches as far west as the Roundabout at Leytonstone, runs north past Warerworks corner and up towards Woodford Wells.

I really like Redbridge Transport....they still have a few Leyland Olympians (original ones) and look in very good condition.
And you mention Havering getting rid of their fleet, does anyone know of any other boroughs who operate buses/coaches as much as Redbridge?

Barking and Dagenham used to operate a substantial coach and minibus fleet from their depot at Becontree Heath.

I believe that they came from Vectis on the Isle of Wight, the 'last two' of the registration letters (in the old series) was 'DL', which was Hampshire-IoW.

I normally see alot of Redbridge's Olympians at either St Ursula's School or Central Park quite alot recently. Also, my dear mother's school in Newbury Park (Oaks Park High School) hardly ever use the council coaches. They always seem to go for a private company, which is odd considering their proximity to the Ley Street depot!!

Redbridge Transport does various tasks. Redbridge has been promoting this 10 week swimming trial at Barkingside Swimming Pool, since mid 90's. When I was in Year 5, in 2001 - 2002, we had a 10 wk swimming trial and they would pick us up and tak us to th swimming pool.
They also pick up disabled and the elderly people and transport them places. Usually the buses are not really full. You may only see like 3 - 10 people, depending on if it is minibus or a actual full length bus.
Redbridge is really a great council and I am honoured to had lived there forom 1992 - 2006 and a brief time in 2008. I cannot wait until I come back for good around 2011/12 and live back in Woodford.

As said earlier the large number of Redbridge Council buses/coaches dotting around Havering is due to Havering Council dropping it's own coach fleets so the schools etc. have to hire from neighbouring Redbridge

I believe in the late 90's and maybe even today redbridge transport operated as far out as glasbury near the black mountains in Wales!!! A lot of redbridge schools use glasbury as an oudoor field trip location so redbdrige transport based some leyland single deckers and transit vans out there when i was at school! Not sure what the situation is today though.

It does seem that the ex-Dublin S-reg Olympians have ousted the older ex-Southern Vectis Olympians. Here are two pictures of RDL690X with SBC Engineering of Leigh on Sea on a rail replacement service in Essex. kevin-smith.fotopic.net/p62958617.htmlkevin-smith.fotopic.net/p62958619.htmlAlso, apologies for putting this thread in the London Bus Operators thread, I think I should really have put it in the 'Bus Operations in the UK' section, as they are in London but dont operate London Bus services.

Saw one of those myself in Harold Hill the other week before going to my exam. What i will do, though, is move this to the UK operators board as, as you said yourself, they're not really London operators
