My hobby has been extremely useful for giving directions. There was one time a few months ago back in college when there was a surge of interviews for unis. A lot of my friends didn't know how to travel to their respective unis, especially the ones in the far-flung regions of London like Brunel, Middlesex and Kingston Unis. Most recently, I met up some friends in Twickenham and we were heading to Chinatown from there. It was planned to take a South West train to Waterloo and then a Northern line to Leicester Square. After finding out how costly the journey was for a few of us, I suggested taking the Piccadilly line from Hounslow East which was 10 - 15 mins away from Twickenham station via the 281. Everyone agreed with my suggestion when I also pointed out that it's much cheaper. Almost all of my friends really admire me with this hobby. Ive also helped out a few times with directions, but if i'm going out with friends, they usually don't listen to me. I'm a bit big headed sometimes, so one evening we went out, I went the proper way on my own, getting to the destination an hour before everyone else! Hopefully in the future they will listen! ;D Also, like eggmiester I did start out liking trains, especially as my Dad used to take me out to the Bluebell railway, or just up to London on the Chingford line. I still do have a big interest in trains, but over the past few years, buses have become more interesting for me. Im also fairly interested in cars- I love Top Gear, and I am currently doing driving lessons. If I pass, and if I get a car, i'm definatly going to use the car sometimes, but i'm certainly not going to give up the bus. Although, if I need to get somewhere in the evenings where I would usually use the bus, I'm DEFINATLY using the car! ;D

I've got myself into a new relationship recently, I wonder how long it'll be before I pluck up the courage to tell her about my 'lame' hobby! Thats definatly something I would worry about when i get a girlfriend. Being paranoid about everything doesn't help either ;D But, if you had a girlfriend who took the pee out of your hobby, she wouldn't be a very decent girlfriend. Also, my favourites are Save A Prayer, Hungry Like The Wolf, Planet Earth and Notorious! ;D Your right there about her not being worth it if she took the pee! Still, I'm quite a shy guy so I'll think i'll hang on a while and see where things go before telling. I went out with my ex for well over a year and a half before I told her. Didn't like lying to her about where I had been, if it was transport related... Still, I'm older and wiser now, so it should be a little easier. Finally, Bighat's post made my day, it had me cracking up!

Although, if I need to get somewhere in the evenings where I would usually use the bus, I'm DEFINATLY using the car! ;D I'd like to see how long that would last!! I said the same when i passed my driving test all those years ago! i used to get the bus everywhere, School, then when i started working - bus to work, going out with friends - get the bus (quicker than walking), Nights out,- Get the Night bus home! etc etc. Then i started driving. Trust me, once you have the freedom and privacy of your own motor vehicle you wont want to travel by bus again!!! That exactly how it happened with me, once i'd passed me test (which i took at 17), got in the car (already had the car before i passed ) and that was it, the money i used to spend on travelcards / bus passes and fares at the time all went on petrol instead!!! Obviously after a night out and /or a few bevvies its best to let the Night Bus, Cab or your legs take the strain!

My Current 4 wheeled hobby (an 06 plate ford focus ST 2.5 Turbo for those who wish to know) is no different! If i get bored, i wash the car, if i go out, I by something to put in or add to the car!! And as for the the ladies, well who said ladies dont like fast cars? I have sat in one before and I would say they are nice, beefy looking and mean cars, as well as the mark 1 Focus RS which I prefer over the mark 1 and 2 ST's. They have a fantastic chassis and grab attention wherever they go. What colour is your one by the way, I think they look nice in Panther Black. I love that full leather Recaro interior too. My only gripe with them is the cost - they seem too over priced for what you get, and I'd never buy one for that reason if I had the money whereas there are cheaper alternatives available - but there will always be people who will pay it, just for the exclusivity (hint). ;D There is a tantalizing orange ST 2 based where I live and the owner looks about twelve, with his baseball cap peering out through the steering wheel! I don't think egg will mind me telling you his IS black As for the thread, I'm probably in the same boat as egg, in that I've only developed a General interest since driving them and although I get called 'bus spotter' at work (don't know why as egg knows FAR more than me ) they all still ask me what's the gossip ;D

Oi!!! Yes mine is Panther Black. Horrible colour to maintain but i think it's far more subtle than the lairy Electric Orange! Me mates got one of those, nice colour but too lairy for me!! Unfortunately its my hobby, so i've spent a bit of money on it, it's not 100% standard. Currently running a Mountune cat back exhaust, uprated front pads, and iv'e had a minor tweaking of the engine map done as the turbo was not boosting correctly! It now boosts as it should and with the addition of a dump valve (which was recommended) it goes like a rocket. It does cost a few bob though, being a large engine it sits in the higher tax band. Insurance isnt too bad for me, since im over 25 and have over 5 years NCB (protected), but i was still annoyed it wnet up on my renewal this year, then again so did everyone else's! ;D Also must mention the cost of fuel, juicy old things these Modified Volvo T5's are!! Did I mention lc1 also drives a focus!! but his isn't as fast as mine
