On the 242 the Contract has been surrendered by Centrebus. A New emergency contract (Sunday service) has been awarded to UNO.

Yes, heard about that. So as of 2nd April, Mon-Sat daytime will be operated by Metroline, Mon-Sat evenings will be operted by Sullivan Buses, and Sundays will be operated by UNO.
I will look forward to seeing UNO at Waltham Cross. They havent operated in this part of Herts before, so will be interesting. (p.s. i think this needs to go in bus operations in the uk)

Will be interesting indeed... I'll move this topic into the correct board (seeing as it is not about a TfL service). Now in more relevant place Yes, heard about that. The Explorer ticket should be vaild in theory but half the time drivers don't know what they are or if their valid as for other tickets contact Centre Bus but for other tickets not issued by them that might be valid you could try Traveline but my experience with them is they are pretty clueless

The link is the Intalink web site for the 242 which says at the bottom of the timetable whether it takes Explorer cards. www.intalink.org.uk/Timetables/tt/242_B_ATG.PDF

Also since the evening/Sunday frequency is council sponsored return tickets should be interavailable. If you travelled outbound in teh daytime on the Metroline operated journeys then the return half will be valid on the supoorted evening journeys.
This si similar to the arrangemnets on the evening 310/311 (operated by Centebus) where tickets issued by Arriva Shires in the daytime are accepted for travel in the evenings.
As for the Explorer ticket, All the bus companies mentioned are Intalink "partners" thus do accept the ticket. Saying that, since the Explorers on Metroline 242H (as it is known on the tickets) are printed on normal London buses ticket roll (complete with roundel), you do get some funny looks when presenting it away from areas with London bus routes!
