I remember being in Poole around 6 years ago and seeing lots of their vehicles parked up in Poole Bus Station and thinking how easy it would be to steal them!! Stupid policy if you ask me. It was waiting to happen

NS do the same, but again they have staff inside with the N86 running. At Poole, i think the depot is quite a trip from the bus station, so aren't very secure at all

Its amazing how many different bus stations you can go to, and see buses with doors opened, unattended, and thinking how easy it would be to steal. I've always wanted to drive a bus, so Ive always been a little tempted ;D, obviously would never do it though. Its amazing people don't steal buses more often. Another thing, can the emergency door open buttons be used when the bus is switched off? Because, that would make it easier to steal or vandalise.

Yeah, the pressurised air in the doors only works for a couple of times until the air 'runs out', meaning that the doors will not work then, thats what I have found. I've seen bus drivers using the door button to open the doors millions of times whilst the bus is on stand at its terminus etc. I remember one time I was waiting for a 99 at Erith town centre roughly a year or so ago and I saw some yobs get on a bus (I think it was a B12 LDP) and tried to turn the bus on but thankfully failed to do so. All of that happened whilst the driver got a pasty from Gregg's.

I remember talking to a conductor on the 12's a few years back who told me a story about a dart on route 42 being stolen from the stand at Camberwell Road, Nags Head. This was back in the day when Limebourne ran the route with Caetano Compasses; apparantly it was 'joyridden' around Camberwell and Walworth for a while before being unceremoniously dumped. Lets just say it wasn't in exactly pristine condition when Limebourne got it back! (but knowing them it probably wasn't in that great a state when stolen )

Scania buses start just like cars as they have the key you turn next to the steering column. Hence why them teenagers knew how to start it.
Other buses dont have keys but you have to turn a knob, this makes it more confusing for people who dont know buses.
The insurance company will pay the £30,000

Basically, BN have staff in the garage 24/7, so the security of the vehicles are greater than leaving them in a bus station ;D

At Poole, i think the depot is quite a trip from the bus station, so aren't very secure at all You say that John, and I thought the same when I tried to locate it (having seen it quite visibly from the rail line just before arriving at Poole). So I started to wonder where it was. If you know the immediate area, you have the bus station and then the Dolphin shopping centre/car park behind that, well just behind the car park is the depot located between the car park and the railway line. Thus with the depot being quite linear in layout there isn't enough space to park every single bus at night (welll there would but would be very hard to move about)! The ground floor of the car park is utilised as the pits/mechanics garage area. If you are a spotter type of person, all the parked up buses (bar those in the pits) can be viewed by entering the shopping centre car park and going up to about the 3rd or 4th floor with a zoom lens! They have recently opened a sub depot by Bournemouth station to house the "More" M1 and M2 fleet of vehicles thus relieving pressure at Poole therefore overnight parking in the bus station at Poole may of been eliminated or reduced to a lesser extent.

Now that is dodgy!! Got to admit, walking through the town centre to then be faced by a train line with level crossing is something i'm really not used to!!
