Transport Minister Norman Baker has announced the winners of £15m Government funding for the second round of the English Green Bus Fund. It will fund 169 vehicles, to operate in most main cities and some rural areas by March 2012.
The funding will help towards the additional up-front cost of buying low carbon buses.
The winners for the second round include Transport for London (54 buses); Stagecoach North East (26); Stagecoach Yorkshire (21); Greater Manchester PTE (19); Oxford Bus Company (17); East Yorkshire Motor Services (8); First Bristol Somerset and Avon (8); Manchester Airport Group (5); Bakerbus (3); Nottingham City Council (2); Dorset County Council (2); University Bus St Albans (2); Reading Transport Limited (1); Johnsons for Stratford-upon-Avon P&R (1).

I was a nice surprise to see that UNO (Universitybus) recieved funding, especially as they are a relatively small independent bus company. Uno has always surprised me, as they are such a high quality bus operator in an area where bus travel is usually fairly low quality. Will be interesting to see what buses they get. UNO have actually recieved £138,000 from the grant and will be using the money for two new buses.

All depends on what route they will be run on but I'll take a wild guess and say Electric Solos or as a wildcard, the soon to be released hybrid Olympus.

Only a guess here but i suspect the Oxford Bus Company ones will be used on the P&R routes that use DDs to oust the Tridents and allow Brighton and Hove to have their Renwons back.
