Major disruption to routes outside of London. Many routes not running and oher cease running without notice leaving no service. Information on what services are running is spartan and inconsistant and unreliable.
Best bet t present is to either not travel or go by car as the bus services are to unreliable & you may be left stranded

Bob, given that many roads appear not to have been gritted, I fail to see what difference going by car would make... operators are doing all they can to try and salvage some sort of service, and I commend them for that... plus I'm not too sure about your statement regarding 'unreliable/inconsistent information' - Metrobus (with their Kent/East Sussex routes) springs to mind as having made an effort to get this info out to the public. Something tells me this is another one of your 'anti-public transport' posts Edit: other staff, I locked this thread (as we already have a dedicated Winter disruptions thread), before I realised this one is in the UK bus operations board, and the other thread appears to be for London only - reopened for now, but feel free to lock again/keep open as appropriate.

TBH, it would be good if bus companies could be as good as Metrobus in terms of communication. Or even if the TfL service updates for buses were as reliable and useful as the service updates for the tube. Many services which were not running had no disruption shown on the service updates. Metrobus also do good updates for their TfL routes though.
But its much better for bus companies to be prioritise on getting the buses out and communicating with drivers.

Most of the roads are passable but the route may need to miss out parts of route but the bus companies pretty much give up and information is pretty near non existant. Stagecoach & Arriva being very bad in this respect. If Centre bus can provide good and constantly updated information other operators should be able to do so.
