A bus firm in Dorset has folded with the loss of more than 40 jobs. Poole-based Shamrock buses served pupils from about 12 Dorset schools in Bournemouth and Poole. One former employee told the BBC that staff found out on Wednesday but everyone "knew it was on the cards". Shamrock buses has yet to comment. full story here www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-14059239and www.shamrockandrambler.co.uk/

Sad news! Bus operator failure seems to be becoming more frequent.
I think Shamrock recently had a featured article in Buses magazine aswell, talking about how they have collected ex-Lothian buses from Edinburgh.
Maybe the government should do something about the increasing failure of bus companies, such as improving the concessionary pass scheme, giving tax reliefs from fuel ( like they give train operating companies!), and also putting more investment into the bus industry, instead of wasting it on car transport! The administrators have said that the main problems for this business were competition and fuel costs.

Is this not as a direct result of Dorset County Council's decision to award all council funded work to the local Go-Ahead company?
While Go-Ahead were crowing about gaining such a contract, the down side is that it will unfortunately put the smaller companies out of business.

It's a big shame all these independants are going to the wall. Only recently, Burtons of Haverhill, who were part of Arriva/TGM I believe, stopped trading. Stephenson's of Essex has taken on all their work and EL2000 Dart N541 TPF and has a fairly large number of buses on loan to cover for the extra work including:
2 G TCD Alexander RL Leyland Olympians Former LDP46 Uno's Optare Spectra & ELC Lowlander The former National Express Midlands Enviro 300 demonstrator A Leyland National & an Alexander Dash Two former Kentish Bus L YCU Volvo Olympians A former Dublin Bus Volvo B6BLE Crusader A former LX51 reg Stagecoach London ALX200
as well as buying 2 brand new 10.7m Enviro 200's, YX11 CTO/U

Probably the case that Go-Ahead secured the work at a lower cost to the CC.
Using vehicles cascaded from the london fleets.
