I'm planning on getting on the 84 during the Christmas season. Has anyone on here been on the revised 84 since the Sullivan Buses takeover and how does the service now compare to how it was when Metroline had it?

Only went on it a week or two after it started and it ran well enough. That said, my only trip with Metroline a month or so before they conceded it also had no issues so probably not the best comparison - the notable difference though is condition of the vehicles with the TE's looking every bit of their age inside and out (mechanically, the one I had was good though) in comparison to the Sullivan Buses WVL1 I had which was looking far younger than it's age being a 52 reg vehicle

AFAIK Sullivan's operate the route well in general, but like any operator they can suffer bad delays due to circumstances that are totally out of their control. You are looking at a time when buses run badly due to Christmas and sales shopping, and there is always the prospect of a collision on the M25 or A1 bringing everything for miles around to a standstill - especially during winter weather. No-one would say EnsignBus are a "bad" operator, but there are times when they just have to give up running the X80 as a lost cause. That said, they always try to ensure the last buses of the day run, no matter how late they will end up getting to their destination.

St. Albans itself, already pretty notorious for congestion in the city centre, does get that bit worse in the run-up to Christmas with shoppers traffic.

Whilst I haven't been on the 84 since SM took over, I generally don't trust Sullivan as an operator for providing good service quality. I'm myself, who lives on the W9 route and often experiences gaps within a service resulting in me taking the 456 a lot more than I should. On paper, the W9 is meant to come twice as frequently as the 456. It doesn't help when services also come late when not tracking on the ibus making me not know when it's not coming. This doesn't apply to the W9 either, most of the SM routes I've seen failed to meet their reliability targets. 298 is one of the worst IIRM. It doesn't surprise me on the 298 as well, it's quite common to see buses bunching on a nearly daily bases for a 20-minute service. It makes me wonder why bus usage is declining and leaders in the TfL towers think enchanting the interior and creating useless cycle lanes will rocket usage on buses.

A driver for Sullivans, this is mainly to do with staff shortages. This has become a regular occurrence across all operators.

Even with driver shortages, there should be an explanation for service bunching's also creating gaps. The 298 and the 299 being servere cases where I won't forget the time I waited 40 minutes and saw three buses bunched together creating an hour gap for only a 20 minute service.

Do apologise but I was referencing the above in regards to Rail job. I certainly stay away from 298 & 299 and usually only stick with the 217s.

St. Albans itself, already pretty notorious for congestion in the city centre, does get that bit worse in the run-up to Christmas with shoppers traffic. It's been like that for years, the junction with the A1081 towards the A414 and M25 near the hill takes a while. Always notice lots of taxis vying for space along with buses, the city could do with a decent bus station or interchange. They wouldn't dare make the section buses only like TfL did to Bishopsgate I don't know if more of a shift to online shopping will make a difference this year, what with the Troll from Trondheim (newspaper speak for cold snap and snow due this weekend)?

All SM routes seems to be suspended so far Many buses and drivers were stuck on the M25, at least 1 bus took 6 hours to get back to SM. We had to suspend L1 and L2 and I believe there may have been a few buses stuck there. Some schools called yesterday to cancel their school services
