And some of us drivers will continue to let kids jump on for free when we read things like that Very very bad.

Hardly the most sustainable. All the drivers can do in their power is to let the kids on for their own safety. The rule makers certainly need to come to the real world.

I know kids are bad, but adults can be just as difficult. My mum was on the 269 last night and a woman got on board, fumbled around with her purse and said "Oh I dont have the right change so I wont pay" and sat down. The driver refused to leave the stop. Dunno what happened after that.

How dear someone go on a bus a say I have not got the right change so I am not paying, I mean what the hell. I mean what idiot does not know that if you do not have and oyster etc then you have to pay two pounds and if you dont have that then off the bus or the driver is not going to move the bus, these stupid ignorant fools these days.

I asked my mum again what happened and she said the woman got on for free as she would not budge so in the end the driver had to drive on and then she got off after only four stops.
She got away with it once. You wonder if she will do it again.

Not just for safety but for the inconvenience of other passengers. The other day I was a passenger on the N159 and these kids came on. some scanned their oyster and the others went upstairs without paying. The driver called them back but they refused to pay so he switch off the engine. After much bickering for about another 10 minutes the driver then put his assault alarm on. Another 5 minutes passed and I got off the bus. As a passenger I should not have to put up with this and this is one of the reasons why I don't bother when the kids walk on like that. We are suppose to call centrecomm when things get out of hand but how long will that take for any assistance to arrive? The companies don't help as all they care about is for you to get from A-B.

I am sorry but if I was that driver I would not have moved the bus a millimetre until she paid or call the police to remove her from the bus, as she is definately not 16 or under. So what makes her think she has entitlement to a free ride.

So what makes her think she has entitlement to a free ride. Here is a situation: A woman gets on and has a £10 or a £20 note. She is willing to pay the £2 fare, but the driver has no change. What do you do? I can give my own solution later, but surprising how few drivers follow the correct procedure.

Well if there is a shop nearby then she can go to the shop and get change or well off the bus.

I don't care how long I sit there I'm getting paid for it and I always have a good book in my bag!! ;D What I do depends on the attitude of the passenger. ( I know the correct procedure CSF... ect) Sometimes when you tell passengers you can't change a note they have another look and as if by magic find the right change. then if still reasonable I say ok and issue a CSF or tell them not to worry and sit down (depending on how much time i have to spare). Some people just instantly go into one. I had a guy last Tuesday got on with a £20 so I said "Sorry mate, I can't change a £20" to which he replied "So what the f**k am i ment to do now, It's not my fault you ain't got any f**king change" He then went to sit down. to that I told him "no exact fare no travel" this was based 100% on his attitude. If he'd said "It's all I've got" I'd have told him to take a seat. After a brief "discussion" he managed to find the right change in his pocket.

Re-News Items. I read in today's paper that Stagecoach have published a step-by-step guide to Using the Bus. The paper calls it Step-by-Step, the blindingly obvious. It goes on to list from 1-8 items that passengers should be aware of before boarding. It's ironic that the Daily Mail should use an iconic photograph of a passenger jumping onto the platform of a RM!!!

Kids are getting worse, its the breakdown of society... I was on the top deck of a 123 yesterday when a group of year 7's (11 year olds) thought it would be a laugh to let off some stink bombs as they were getting off the bus... It's bad enough when kids push onto a bus thru the back doors when the driver hasn't opened the front ones if the bus is full...

Bus Driver "We not safe"(copy and paste) www.thisiscroydontoday.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=250100&command=displayContent&sourceNode=250096&contentPK=19584014&folderPk=115336&pNodeId=250133Mind you this news thread was made over a week ago. Basically complaining about the use of the code red as how its unreliable and a waste of time. And they mentioned a few incidents including... - A driver being robbed of a bag containing ticket fares at gunpoint in Handcroft Road, West Croydon, on December 6 as he searched for somewhere to eat
- A passenger defecating on a number 64 bus at lunchtime one day two weeks ago
- A fare-dodger spitting at a driver, covering his cash till in phlegm
- An angry passenger smashing four windows on a New Addington night bus.
The code red facility is ok for information on diversion but I agree the other comments made.

The simple anser is this kids no that there will be no repussions from their actions. TfL will do nothing, The police will do nothing and there parents will do nothing. They know they can do whatever they please. If by any very remote chance they were to get arrested there will be an army of do gooders explaing why its not their fault. Strangely Do gooders show no interest in helping the victems of crime. Untill we get shot of the Do Gooders crime will continue to escalate. Things are so bad now that serious crime is now being committed by primary school children. No one is suggested they be flogged but they need to be treated as criminals and not told by some do gooder its not their fault because it is their fault
