From BBC London travel news this morning 08:35: - A406 Southend Road North Circular Road Greater London, eastbound at A104 Woodford New Road A406 Greater London - Severe delays, queueing traffic and the main carriageway is closed, with traffic being routed around the junction and back on again, on A406 Southend Road (North Circular Road) eastbound at Waterwork's Corner, because of a bus fire and some smoke blowing across the road. Diversion in operation - via the roundabout. Congestion to Great Cambridge Interchange. Also affecting A104 Woodford New Road between A503 Forest Road and North Circular Road and A104 Woodford New Road between Chelmsfo Wonder who/what that is? Bus was Arriva's DLA148. Fortunately not in service at the time (running out from Edmonton to start work on route 20)

Bus was Arriva's DLA148. Fortunately not in service at the time (running out from Edmonton to start work on route 20) I'm a bit confused. Looking on Google Streetview, the layby where the bus caught fire is in the middle of the Waterworks Roundabout (the roundabout goes above the North Circ). If it was an EC bus for the 20, it would of got off to go round the roundabout, rather than going under the roundabout in the direction of South Woodford....if that makes sense. Maybe it was for the 123? DLA148 is V348DGT, and there have only ever been S---JUA, Y---UGC and '03-reg DLAs working the 20. Of course, it could be a EC bus - I haven't been home for a few weeks so it could have transferred over to EC without me knowing.

DLA148 did transfer to EC a few weeks back, it could be DLA148 as the 20 could have been intending to take the Southend Road turnoff onto the M11 and turn off at the Loughton Exit which is the first junction on the M11 from London.

DLA148 didn't last at EC very long then! Thanks for the explanation. Does make sense that it was probably heading for the M11 Loughton turn-off.

If it wasn't such a windy day we had today, DLA148 would probably survived if it was just an engine fire?

I found this article in today's copy of The Times (click to enlarge): Full of inaccuracies. 80metres long? Try 18!! How long ago was that Wright bendy withdrawn? Arriva a British company? Owned by the Germans!

Its defo a decker - one of my colleagues passed it in his car and filmed it on his phone. If I can upload the footage here (and I dont' know how or if I can) I will. It was a massive fire, the vehicle will be a write off. There we go: - www.tangytango.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=photos&thread=4666&post=144594
