I want the girls named and shamed. They should be banned from travelling on the TFL buses as well! They should also pay for the repairing of the bus as well as they caused the damaged. I wonder what the emotions of the parents are like? Ban free bus fares for kids (except school days) These girls will never forget for what they did! I am like many people am upset by what has happened but I think this is a bit of an over reaction here. These girls where 7 when the incident occured on 7/7, I think they could have set fire to any bus they were on, still what they did was wrong. I think they should be told about that bus and what it represents and maybe that will make them fell regretful (a few hours cleaning up the buses at West Ham wont hurt either).I think the parents should suffer more than the girls here. These girls are a minority, so lets not punish the majority of children who in their lifetimes will not do anything as bad as this. And finally How do you ban people from a bus anyway?

They probably won't be paying i think they should be made to clean buses for a year inside im sure they'll learn if they had to clean up vomit and rotten food thats left on some buses and they should also lose there freebie oysters as they have contravined the contract on them This. At the very least they should have their free travel taken away! Although I'm sure it would violate some human right law

I lived several miles from my school and had to take two buses to get there - the LEA wouldn't give me any other school. Not really fair I'd have to pay out on 4 bus fares a day, 200 times a year because of an LEA decision! Then the LEA should give you a free pass ... it should not be a right for everyone And they used to. When I was at school I had NO CHOICE but to pay a fare. Be it the 40p per journey cash or £15.40 for a monthly bus pass. We didn't qualify for free passes then because I lived too close to the school in the LEA's mind - it wasn't means tested. Mum wasn't on great money so we got by. And we walked one stop instead of getting the bus. Heck there were days I walked home from Harold Wood and spent my bus fare on sweets or something. And we're only going back to 2000 to 2003 when I left school. This free travel stuff is nonsense. Whether the kids have these ZIP cards or not, TfL should have left a child fare on the machines for those "I've lost my oyster" or "my oysters in the post" moments. Because ultimately as bus drivers we are stuck in the middle. If we don't let the kids on, their parents complain and we're in the wrong. We let them on, they get fined by an RPI, their parents complain and we get booked for letting them on without payment. And then we get moments like this. Can guarantee the argument with the driver was over paying a fare

Can guarantee the argument with the driver was over paying a fare i agree... the kids need to bring their common sence back as the child fare gives them responsibility. The kids can use the bus as long the driver know what school the pupil comes from and home address in order for the parents to pay what they owe to the operator when the child is vunerable... But free bus rides is permitted for kids but it causes fare rises for adults... But if i was mayor i would bring back child fares... I would have the cards to have them free rides when its term time (except weekends) which saves the parents bit of money so it enables them to buy lunch... I remember seeing one kid putting a fiver on the tray and the driver lets him through for free and tell him to save it for lunch.

I could understand it being schooldays only - that would be a reasonable compromise.

Ive always felt Teenagers should pay a fare because they do make alot of pointless journies etc etc and the fact it could fund the OAPs freedom pass and perhaps bring the adult fare down?

But its too much teenagers being lazy to walk up couple of stops but instead they wait 30 minutes for a bus to make it crowded more and then they get off 2 stops... People like them needs to use their legs to commute around...

I have on occassion jumped on a bus to go two stops but it was in my defence because if i didnt I'd be late for work and needed to catch the bus that was down the road. But regularly i see teenagers with there chicken and chips going one stop and heavy breathing as they walk to the exit door my thinking is that its no wonder we have an obesity problem when teenagers are too lazy to walk 100- 200 metres up the road end of rant.

Them teenagers really need to stop wasting their money on junk food which will make them fat and lazy... If i dont want to wait 20 minutes to go down a mile... i can walk it and make it there in 20 minutes... TFL needs to start doing a fitness program for teenagers

When I was at School, PE lessons were pointless. They were more playing games (Football, Rounders etc) rather than proper exercise

I wonder what the emotions of the parents are like? Ban free bus fares for kids (except school days) For once 'freebbc', I agree with you. They should indeed be named and shamed instead of hiding behind the 'they can't be named for legal reasons due to their age'. I find that ruling extremely stupid because at the end of the day, they shouldn't of comitted their dreadful act and your rights should be removed once do you something like this. They indeed should be banned from using the bus, might make them learn that fire doesn't belong on a bus! Them & their family should also be made to cover the damage as the parents are just as much to blame as the two girls. And yes, free travel for kids should be removed all year around regardless of school days or not. I disagree with 18+ people receiving it - IMO, it should be the elderly, disabled people and armed forces personnal that should receive free travel. To the person who mentioned human rights, they lost their human rights the minute they decided 19000 was better off as a fireplace! The human rights laws have been so abused that human rights are now a joke - everyone uses it as a way of copping out of something. As for what should happen to 19000 once repaired, it should be put into it's old livery with all the decals it had but thats where I would stop. The blinds should be left as they are as should the interior. As for renumbering it back to 18500, then yes but only if nothing is currently using that number in the Stagecoach UK fleet.

Ok i can see this is about to go a bit mental so lets all calm down before its gets to the point that a moderator / admin locks the thread after all we've all been warned recently to think before posting about this very subject (yes i know i made a comment that was insulting the build quality) though the highly emotive reaction to this incident shows how much we remember 7/7 i for one knew without looking exactly which bus it was and what it signified when this thread began
