So what are you all looking forward to on the next year?
Well only thing im looking forward to is my favourite bus being rolled out on the other routes. But for the rest i do not know. But it will be loads of stress for me on what to do next with my life. So nothing really much.

For 2013 i hope to start doing my driving and hopefully pass the test Car or them big red things? I'd actually like to start using my license. Haven't used it in 18months - need to re-invest in some wheels! Plus a new job for September is priority number 1! Bus wise... Bit more variety of vehicles out and about it is always nice, as are large fleet re-shuffles! Anything NBfL introduced new and I'll be happy

Not wanting this to become the NBfL thread but they have their place as a small niche fleet IMO - full LT conversion for the 38 or introduction to a second route would certainly be an interesting development

I wouldn't be surprised if all Zone 1-centric routes ended up with full hybrid allocations. In the case of routes like the 23 that could mean part allocations of the NB4L? Who knows...

In the case of routes like the 23 that could mean part allocations of the NB4L? Who knows... Its quite clear what is happening with the bus fleet if you look at tender thread. There are quite a few new buses Jan- Feb, so plenty of 62 reg. Then it quietens down and only about 230 new buses including 30+20 LTs for 13 reg. Not so clear yet for last 4 months but I suspect there will be hybrids for zone1 (even if it results in buses moving to outer London routes, starting with the Romford area tender. So the new hybrids won't actually work in Romford) Secondly my other late 2013 prediction is a large batch of euro5 single decks (before euro6 deadline) to replace remaining euro2 and early euro3 single decks. I'm not confident on this one though as Route One mag couple of weeks ago said TfL has plans to buy upto 900 Euro6 buses in 2014. This suggests they are serious about the pollution problem and would fit in with having all buses euro4 min by end of 2014 (there is also a plan to fit another approx 900 euro3 buses with exhaust equipment to mimic euro5 so nothing will be euro3 standard)

I can give you my detailed view if you want it I think TFL will almost certainly want to get nearly every route in the Central London area hybrid, and I imagine by 2016 any route that's not Borismaster will probably have conventional hybrids. As I expressed in another thread, I'm guessing their first target will be routes with the oldest Euro standard diesel buses - various routes are culprits of this, the worst I can think of being the 172 - those buses lasting to the end of the contract with a Central London route would be quite a shock. I imagine for the next couple of years the focus on Central London's deckers being converted to hybrid will come at the expense of suburban routes entirely - the willingness to use VLWs on the 41 is indicative that if it's not running to Central London, it's not much of a concern at the moment. Saying that, suburban routes could fully benefit from being on the end of a cascade which might end up displacing fairly new diesel buses - as has been the case with the 29/73 conversions leaving a large pool of DWs spare. Overall, the hybrid drive is probably going to get more and more drastic. If TFL can't find anywhere to put the NB4Ls, that's where the problems will lie and I dread to think what the results of such arbitrary measures might be. Eventually we'll probably end up seeing the newest diesels displaced or even hybrids - a Borismaster on one hybrid route leaves hybrids spare for another. I think part of the Euro 5 single-deck influx would be partly pollution problems and also the predictions that Euro 6 could be more costly. If that's the case, operators would want to replace their older buses at the least expense, quickly. The conversion of Euro 3 buses I imagine is where the contract on the routes has many years left to play out - could some such conversion occur to Abellio's buses on the 455? I imagine so.

I (and others) have suggested that some operators might prefer to buy Euro5 buses before the Euro6 deadline because of complexity and extra cost (Mercedes is estimating about 12000-15000 pounds extra for euro6, I assume other makes are probably £10k+)
Of course, buying early means you need to find a home for your displaced bus (assuming its not yet ready for scrap), so here is a reminder of the deadlines :
1 Jan 2013 (next week) Euro6 min for new type approvals 1 Jan 2014 Euro6 for all buses and coaches 1 Jan 2015 DDA (disability) regs for all buses & coaches upto 7.5tonnes GVW 1 Jan 2016 DDA for single decks over 7.5t GVW 1 Jan 2017 DDA for double decks 1 Jan 2020 DDA for coaches
