The local Council freebie paper has just dropped through the letter box. The front page headline is that Lea Bridge Station is to re-open on the line between Tottenham Hale and Stratford. No target date for opening is given but a 12 month construction timeline is given in the report linked to below. There is an abandoned station on the site and Waltham Forest council (LBWF) have been working for several years to develop plans for reopening. The paper says that agreement has been reached with Network Rail to proceed with the re-opening. I understand LBWF has S106 funds from the Westfield / Olympic Park regeneration. Unfortunately the pdf of the local paper is not yet on the website. However I did find this council feasilbility paper that sets out various options for the proposed station design plus the preferred option / costs. Looks quite interesting to me. The entrance will be on the Stratford bound platform, off Argall Way, with the old entrance on Lea Bridge Rd closed off permanently. www.walthamforest.gov.uk/documents/ke134-lea-bridge-station-reopening.pdfThe line that Lea Bridge station is on currently has a 30 minute service from Stratford to Hertford East or Bishops Stortford / Cambridge. There are future plans to increase services if TfL gain control of the Greater Anglia inner suburban services.

If TFL took over Greater Anglia, would that mean it would become London Overground with the trains with tube style seats? Also if Lea Bridge reopened then maybe the W19 could be extended there.

If TFL took over Greater Anglia, would that mean it would become London Overground with the trains with tube style seats? Also if Lea Bridge reopened then maybe the W19 could be extended there. The plans envisage a big investment scheme to add extra tracks north of Tottenham Hale. This would separate the fast services from slower ones and allow a much more frequent all stations Overground style service. I think this will be very popular and it will take pressure off some of the parallel bus routes through Ponders End / Edmonton / Tottenham. I don't know what will happen with the rolling stock. Clearly the class 315s are very old and need replacement but other stock is newer but could do with being cleaned and refurbished. If TfL did order trains then it might well opt for the 378 style interior but it may not be very popular with commuters into Liverpool Street. I think the station opening could be the trigger for the W19 running on further to the station. The other issue would be to put a service down Orient Way. The 393 or the 425 could run down Lea Bridge Rd, serve the new station and then down to Leyton. Orient Way was built with bays for bus stops but has no service!

How about extending the 26 to Leyton, Bakers Arms via Orient Way. Or if the 339 gets extended to Whipps Cross maybe the route could run via Orient Way and then the 56 to Whipps Cross. I also hope they get rid of the 315s.

I wonder why they used a C2C train in the illustration.

And it wouldn't be hard to timetable in. Because every time I've been from Stratford. The train has always stopped short of the coppermill junction to let one from hackney downs go to tottenham first.

Lea Bridge station was named as one of the preferred reopenings by the DfT this morning. The list of stations to be definitely reopened will be confirmed in May 2013.

So the station should open under Greater Anglia.

So the station should open under Greater Anglia. Judging from the outline description of the facilities it will probably be unstaffed but Greater Anglia almost certainly will be the Station Facility Owner (rail industry term). Depends on how long it takes to build the station though.

Depends on how long it takes to build the station though. Well they are saying by the end of 2014, which I think is a bit optimistic. But if it does open at that time it will be managed by Greater Anglia as they have now got a extension to 2016.
