Since EL2 is the longest whilst the EL1 is the shortest and 24 hour route. Why don't they merge together (to make the full EL1) and make something useful to place the EL2 onto another route?
There have been some proposed areas and they haven't come into effect for now. Is it a simply waste of money because the only difference is the branding and the route number which was 369.

This is due to loadings as far less people use the route between Bastable Avenue and Dagenham Dock (the EL2 section of route) as this area is still under development, and current TFL policy is (or was at one time!) not to have short workings on routes. The EL1 and EL2 are extremely busy routes between Ilford and Bastable Avenue, don't forget that when the concept was originally conceived it was meant to have been a tram scheme similar to Croydon Tramlink, which would have interchanged with National Rail and DLR (on the now shelved extension) at Dagenham Dock.

I have always been of the opinion however that the EL2 should have been the 24 hour route rather than the EL1. When I was at DM there was always people walking through the industrial estate in the early hours and lets face it, Dagenham as an area would then have some form of night service.

Couldn't agree more. Not only that but it takes away the threat of anti-social issues on the Thames View at that time of night by taking stand time away from there and to a relatively remote industrial area. Not so much safe, but safer than the Thames View in my eyes.

Hardly anyone uses the EL2. Late at night, I very rarely picked anyone up.

After 2200 pretty much get the odd 1 or 2 from Dagenham Dock but most workers would be on a night shift so can get the daytime service. Also EL1 ensures a service when Sunday market is on.
