The DfT have published their revised franchising programme this morning.
The basic gist is
- Mega Thameslink and Essex Thameside franchises reletting process restarts today. Southern will still merge into Thameslink in 2015.
- East Coast to return to the private sector before the general election.
- Almost all other franchises receive extensions to reflect a decision to spread out the workload involved in reletting franchises.
- Virgin receive a further extension of over 2 years on the West Coast.
- Northern and Trans Pennine Express are aligned timewise for reletting but no announcement yet if they are to merged.
- South Eastern gets a 4 year extension!
- SWT get a 26 month extension.
- Greater Anglia get a 27 month extension.
No word at all about devolution of Greater Anglia and South Eastern suburban services to TfL. This is slightly surprising.
