Hello,
Similar to the 205 thread. Routes 262 and 473 are up for new tenders next year.
Do you think either of these routes need extensions? both routes are busy but are duplicated a fair bit from Prince Regent to Stratford and are fairly short.
I propose extended one of the routes again via Stratford City towards Hackney.
Also again I think there will be competition for these routes from Go-Ahead (Docklands)/ CT Plus perhaps Arriva (Barking)
Any Thoughts?

I think the 262 should remain untouched as it's a very good and useful link around the retail parks in Beckton. All I think the route needs is a slight frequency increase to be able to cope with the loadings throughout the route.

I don't know the routes very well but looking at where they run I would not change the core section of route.
I would hope (!) that there is a balanced and co-ordinated headway to give a good flow of buses on the core section. This should always be retained regardless of who runs what route. This is not, however, one of TfL's strengths. They don't recognise the benefits of balanced headways nor require operators to provide them.
I would not advocate any extension to Stratford City or beyond. The reason for this is that sending buses onwards means they cannot serve the main bus station in one direction. Given people are used to getting both routes together it would be daft to force a split. Whichever route remained at Stratford Bus Stn would inevitably be very overloaded with people wanting the bit through Plaistow and beyond.
My observation of the 241 at Stratford City shows pitiful loadings - by far the worst of the 4 routes that run there. I suspect people just go the main bus station and catch whatever other route is convenient for them.

Maybe the extension further into the park will help things.

I use the link a bit (because I'm too lazy to walk to catch a 339) and I'm often the only person using it. Yes - I believe that was the original reason why the 241 was extended to Stratford City, to try and reduce the flow and stand space within the bus station.

Why was stand space was required at Stratford? Thanks Prior to the 241 extension there was quite often too much congestion for buses terminating at Stratford to try and even get a space to park I think TFL extended the 241 to try an prevent this. Ocassionally there is still congestion but still there's much more free stand space within Stratford now, also coupled with the D8 which got diverted.

Thanks, I do wonder if either the 262 or 473 would have been a better choice sure there would have been more demand ;D
