Massive 108 diversion early this morning due to S/B Blackwall Tunnel being closed in addition to the issues at Tower Bridge: Buses went via the Limehouse Link Tunnel, Tower Hill Station, London Bridge, Bermondsey Station, Surrey Quays Station and Cutty Sark Station up to North Greenwich. From Chrisp Street, L East India Dock Road, R Cotton Street R Aspen Way, A Limehouse Link Tunnel, A The Highway, A East Smithfield, A Minories, L Byward Street, R Great Tower Street, A Eastcheap, L King William Street, A London Bridge, L Duke Street Hill, A Tooley Street, L Jamaica Road, A Lower Road, A Evelyn Street, A Creek Road, L Greenwich Church Street, R College Approach, R King William Walk, L Romney Road, A Trafalgar Road, L Blackwall Lane, A Blackwall Lane, 1st exit roundabout Millennium Way to line of route. In theory! I was doing the Canning Town to Dagenham East replacement service. Running dead back to QB we were told to use the Blackwall Tunnel but unaware there was a planned closure. When I got to All Saints there was a Lewisham bound 108 ahead of me. I was curious what would happen after Tower Bridge, given neither of our buses normally enter the ULEZ. That 108 was very well loaded and I could hear the turbocharger going like the clappers - would have been a good ride! The bus stopped on Lower Thames Street and I went around it and over Southwark Bridge in accordance with the signposted diversion.

I don't know how long, but the bus I was following took 55 minutes to get from Tower Bridge to Blackheath!

The Southampton Row closure has been a real mess as the diversion changed today. Southbound Southampton Row seems to be fine but northbound routes 59, 68, 91 and 168 are diverted from Kingsway to Tottenham Court Road Station, Goodge Street Station, Warren Street Station, Euston Square Station and Euston Road. This is quite lengthy considering the 14 is running normally and could have diverted via British Museum.
It also surprises me that the 59/68 are diverted as this will cause a lot of significant journey time as the first stop on normal route on diversion is Euston Station.
The 168 is being diverted via Hampstead Road and not serving Euston Road, Euston and Eversholt Street from Warren Street also.

Remember the requirement for hybrid / zero-emission is only a contractual requirement for TfL services that normally enter the ULEZ (i.e. it doesn't apply to the 108 or DL-7).
I think you're right that in general, ULEZ rules are not enforced on traffic that is forced into the zone by a diversion, so long as they're following an officially signed diversion.

The bus I was driving is on a stay of execution and has managed to evade any kind of refurbishment for 14 years. I don't think it has been upgraded to Euro 6 to be honest!

I know for a fact that when on diversion the drivers have a scheduled timetable and it provides an additional 30 minutes between Poplar and North Greenwich. Obviously going to the city would add at least 10-15 minutes (I do not know if there was traffic in London Bridge or the Highway from the traffic being displaced). Based on my maths, the route in total from Stratford to Lewisham via London Bridge must be at least 20 miles long. IMO it must be harder driving constantly for 30-40 minutes without stopping comparing to stopping and having chances to have a break at the bus stop. Route N108 drivers are definitely earning their money!

My Countdown app, London Bus Pal also loads the diversion schedule on Saturdays and shows all the stops served!

I used to be a regular traveller on the 108 when I was working near Stratford (prior night tube) and most passengers would request to come off in the Deptford area or Woolwich Road. I have travelled on the diversion once since lockdown (accidental - Because I missed the last Jubilee line --- It finishes relatively early from Stratford) and it seemed to be the same pattern of one passenger coming off on Evelyn Street and 4-5 passengers coming off on Woolwich Road. Since the stops are visibly present, I wonder if people are using the N108 knowing it on diversion serving the Shadwell area, Bermondsey and the whole of the South East (haha) based on journey planners now incorporating this as a potential route?

I am wondering - (in a land of infinite money) does a permanent route like this make sense? It’s a pretty handy one - can start somewhere around Stratford international / Stratford city, serve Westfield, come down warton road, follow the 108 till all saints, then through poplar high street / blackwall roundabout, limehouse link, highway, tower bridge and then on to deptford / blackheath

An overnight closure of Mitchley Avenue at Riddlesdown for resurfacing means that route 412 is on a rather lengthy diversion from Sanderstead to Purley via Mitchley Hill then following routes 403/409/407 through Warlingham, Whyteleafe and Kenley. It also goes especially long by using Westhall Road rather than Tithe Pit Shaw Lane / Hillbury Road, even though that routing is served by school journeys on route 409.

The 269 (and presumably 162 as well) has been diverted between Bromley North and Chislehurst via Grove Park and Mottingham today.
