I see from Londonbusroutes.net that Stagecoach are starting a temporary school contract tender on route 256
Additional morning school day journey introduced from Noak Hill to Hornchurch at 0801. Operated by Stagecoach London on a temporary contract with a double decker from Romford garage. (100413)¶

Arriva have been running few deckers from the 370 and it would be interesting to see Stagecoach entering into service early. But will that mean that Arriva will not be able to put any deckers onto the 256 service because of Stagecoach doing it? But there are the 656 which runs parallel to the 256 but they run couple of deckers on and its run by First. the 646 runs the single decks.

The reason the 646 has SDs is a low bridge in the Cranham area. If it wasn't for that it would be DD. Sent from my GT-I9100 using proboards

I suspect it was the case that arriva could not free up a DD for this working so a temporary tender was put out to run this journey prior to contract change. the tender in effect is the same type as those used for short term/temporary shuttle routes.
I have it on good authority that it will use a bus from the 86 allocation.

Yes, but the time of day that this bus is operating is a bloody busy one and will relieve abit of pressure off the next 256 after that. Trust me, after using that time bus for a long, long time, the DD working is a much needed service I can assure you

There are countless routes that ran as minibuses some as small as MR class which are now double decker full time! this is hardly the same, this is school time workings again there are lots of routes like this.

When Arriva London hands the route over to Stagecoach, what will they do with their single deckers?

Next question ;D I thought the 256 was allocated reasonably young 10.8m Enviro200. They should be of the right age to do another contract, perhaps they will be held back for any routes bidded for. They could also be possibly used on the 255, that used to see workings from the old PDLs on the 289.

Best thing to do with the 256 E200's is to scrap them, They're that fu**ed! Same as the 499's ones and some the 66's batch
