Route 249 will transfer from Merton (AL) to Stockwell (SW) on 1st June 2013.
This follows a review of the company's operations in which several issues were highlighted, including vehicle capacity issues at AL and excess staff at SW where 90 odd ex route 24 drivers were displaced.
thus the 249 and its buses will move to SW from this date and be staffed with the displaced 24 drivers and any staff that wish to transfer from AL.

I have always thought the 249 would suit SW better. Getting from Colliers wood to the line of route can encounter very heavy traffic and driver changeovers could be easily done at Clapham Common.
Shame though as it will mean no more B9s on the 280 and other AL routes. Does mean the garage can become all PVL/E. the current WVLs will become route bound at SW as they have AL blinds.

The 87s EHs will be blinded for the 249. EH1-EH5 also have 249 on them.

I was under the impression either WVL206-209 or 206-210 were to stay at AL, to replace the last older WVLs.

Thanks for the news Egg! I'm glad 249 is moving to SW totally makes sense now space is available there and also the garage is just a mile away from its northern terminus of Clapham Common. The amount of dead mileage must have been substantial now that is operating from AL.

The 249 WVL's will hopefully remain with the blind set they currently have, don't want them awful B9TL's appearing on other routes.

Great news! I'm especially looking forward to the E400H appearing on the route, up the hills at Streatham Common and stuff, not that the B9TLs are bad or anything, they are great too. ;D The 249 WVL's will hopefully remain with the blind set they currently have, don't want them awful B9TL's appearing on other routes. The 19's WVLs already appeared on several SW routes, like the 196 already so it'll be nothing new.

Appearances on other routes though have been rare - having more of them increases the chances of them straying. The Euro V B9TL is a dreadful vehicle performance wise.

I am also guessing that spacing issues would have been a bit more difficult at AL with the slightly longer single deckers due for the 219.
