I have a quick query - hopefully someone on here can provide an answer While taking some photos at Finsbury Park today two low floor deckers on schools work came past. One is ex Stagecoach V213 MEV (Trident ALX) and the other is W556 RWG (Trident / President) ex Lothian. The latter bus had legal lettering which I can just make out on the photo. It says "London Bus Group based at Tower Transit's Atlas Rd garage". I've never heard of this operator. Does such a firm exist and do they do schools service / private hires? There is such an operator, and they also do private hires. In addition to W556RSG they also have (or at least did last year LK03GHN, which is ex-Metroline TP450 (and still had fleet numbers last year). Both were fitted out inside as a party bus, with flashing LED lights, massive speakers and the associated equipment for the music (the front nearside seats upstairs were removed in order to put the speakers, while downstairs the luggage space was used). W556RSG did have seatbelts at every seat, but I don't remember TP450 having them. I got to travel on both last year as they were hired on multiple occasions by UEL for nights out in Romford I also got TP450 to Brunel University for a party there

Former Abellio's 9726 for sale www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182559840825Noting that it's advertised as having a 11.5 litre engine and a Voith gearbox (guessing it's still with the 8.3 litre unit with ZF transmission).

youtu.be/VwXQA03MJgEThought this would be as good a thread to put it as it does qualify as ex London buses, seeing the heavily lovely presence of the RT and RM family as well as a quick glimpse of an SMS on one of the Red Arrow routes... plus one or two other types that I'm not quite familiar with (barely remembering this specific period in time). There's a lovely bit of nostalgia along what seems to be from route 9 from the beginning of the video. The scene where it goes along Piccadilly into Hyde Park reminds me of the later part of the 70s when we used to travel on the 19 from Finsbury Park back to Tooting Bec before changing to the 88 for Mitcham Cricketers. The 88 I remember with both RT and RM types but I only remember the 19 with Routemasters (too young to remember RTs on route). Briefly drifting off subject I can recall some of the old road schemes in the central London area such as the old gyratory at Trafalgar Square, which i believed changed around 2002 give or take... relatively recent compared to other central London changes. I also remember the roundabout at County Hall but I don't remember it without a building in the middle. A layout I didn't know about is that full traffic was then able to go from Piccadilly Circus direct to Leicester Square. Can't believe how wide the road was as well, bearing in mind it's mostly pedestrianised now which alters perception. In Piccadilly I didn't realise there used to be another tube station entrance between LillyWhites and the beginning of Haymarket. I remember the traffic lights being gold coloured as well at the main junction...also remembering congestion being just as bad then (latter 70s) as it is today. Perhaps the traffic light sequence hasn't changed that much since. lol Slightly later into the video there appears to be a ride on what could be the 12, 53, 109 or 155* etc (or perhaps an open bus) from Westminster Bridge to Elephant and Castle, remembering the latter as it used to be back in the days when the 95 used to run through there, somewhat the 333 of the day. Loving the other decorations of 70s London, such as the more pleasantly stylist variations of street lightings at Elephant and Castle, Hyde Park Corner, Regent Street and Kensington High Street. Also having good memories of some of the car models my dad and granddad had from the 70s and into the 80s. Getting back to the buses, I remember the 77 and 77A with RTs but certainly remember them well with Routemasters. Looking at some other routes such as the 6, 9 and 73 makes me reminisce somewhat more around the 1990s and early noughties where the routes still had the types. * - not sure how it left Embankment for its return trip towards Wimbledon

The 88 I remember with both RT and RM types but I only remember the 19 with Routemasters (too young to remember RTs on route). A few comments 1. Note how standardised the LT bus fleet was. And we moan today about standardisation - nothing like it was back then. 2. The driving standards were appalling back in 1970. How there weren't car crashes all the time I don't know 3. Note how few road markings there were. 4. Lots of lovely old cars - Rovers, the red Hillman Imp at Parl Sq, a Renault 10, old Jags (half expected the Sweeney to be chasing one) 5. A lot of London hasn't changed a bit. 6. Nice local shops that aren't all take aways (St George's Rd shot near Elephant) 7. If that video was shot from a car then it was the tallest car in London given the height angle of some shots. 8. Caroline Pidgeon (AM) would be horrified - all those bus route numbers that are the same today as 47 years ago. "How sloppy not to change things". 9. A lot of car parking all over Central London and a lot of car use. 10. I suspect the LU stn entrance at Picc Circus might have closed as a result of the Underground Ticketing System (UTS) project. Several stations had entrances closed to create space downstairs for side located ticket offices that were secure. Piccadilly Circus almost certainly had an old style passimeter (island) ticket office and these were all replaced except at Arnos Grove and Southgate (and possibly at other Holden era stns) where they were retained on heritage grounds but are / were not used in service. 11. Lovely, but fleeting, shot of a United Auto Bristol RE express coach at Marble Arch. They were the mainstay of North East - London express services for many years but later cascaded to bus work. I once got one home, still in Nat Exp livery, on my local route in Newcastle. Have fond memories of that journey. Not my photo but here are three at rest in Bishop Auckland in later years - www.flickr.com/photos/23207961@N07/4883709264/in/gallery-24759744@N02-72157624586884479/

Ex GAL PDL4 up for sale on ebay Ex GAL LDP1 also up for sale on ebay I remember driving PDL4 on the N44 when there were no euro3 PDLs ready in time for me to pull out the yard and I didn't fancy a B7TL. The bus then was very sluggish at the pullaway stage but on random occasions would pullaway as quick* as the T reg Tridents First London had. I tried to do various throttle tricks to get it to perform that way again, which i managed to do but not all the time. * - engine revved up as prompt as the euro3 DW

They recently repeated the two part documentary on coach travel on BBC4. The second part featured people who lived in and travelled in old coaches. Therefore there's a little bit of a tradition here but this modification is pretty swish.

Former VWL34 seen on a school contract in Essex painted all white. Can't remember who the owner was, it passed at speed in the opposite direction to my 62.
