Must say, I'm dissapointed that the response isnt more frank, more radical, or more interesting - however neither am I suprised though.
Notice that over the entirity of it, there are two seperate maps depicting orbital routes. The routes shown arent the same. It avoids the issue broadly of 'orbital express' routes by talking in turn about its orbital routes, and then each of its 4 express routes.
Honestly, it strikes me as the kind of report a bunch of undergrads cobble together over the weekend before a Monday hand in.
Orbital express routes could be made to work if they were simply depicted on a new transport 'master' map of London. Even just showing *some* (not all!!) of the most useful links on the London Connexions map would be a start. The 340, or 140, or 222 between Uxbridge and west drayton for example, in the same manner as rail-air coaches have appeared before.

TfL have no remit to be radical and being frank to the politicians isn't going to work at this stage. Leon has said in about 10 different ways that there is no money and no policy to do anything than struggle within a constrained budget. The fact that this is a ridiculous policy given the pressures facing the network is down to the Mayor, his advisers and the Chancellor. The only way we get better bus services is to ask the politicians if they support them, ask them specifically what their policies would be to improve matters and also what the other consequences are (nothing comes for free). Only then can people have a clue as to how they should vote in 2015 and 2016. I don't really agree with muddling up the tube or London Connections map with bus routes. If we wanted to show orbital bus links beside rail services then we'd need to start with some criteria as to what routes to include and how they are included. We do need to remember that a quick look at spider maps will show what buses run from which stations and I think almost every station in London has a spider map.

Sir Peter Hendy has written to the London Assembly Transport Committee with an update on TfL's progress with the committee's recommendations about bus services. Looks like there is work going on in a number of areas but some of it is running late. There is also commentary on how they're trying to analyse Oyster data to see where people get off buses and on bus loadings (the bus busyness measure). TfL Letter to Transport Committee

TfL Letter to Transport CommitteeThe answer to the emissions question fills in the gaps, after modifying 1400 buses, 1000 euroII and euroIII remain. The Sept announcement was for 400 more modifications to 1800 so the other 600 must be withdrawals. Whilst replacing 600 buses is nothing startling (its actually the rate for 14 year life) there does seem to be a number or euro IV and euroV buses going off lease. Therefore seems to be a big gap for some operators to rid themselves of the remaining unmodified buses in next 51 weeks. I haven't seen any cleaner air stickers on my local London United TAs and DPS as an example. But maybe this gives a clue to buses being replaced by LTs indirectly.

All the Euro III Arriva deckers that were chosen for the cleaner air upgrades were completed last year leaving a small number that will be leaving the fleet which includes all remaining DLA's (no surprise) and the 55 reg VLA's. No Arriva Enviro 400's were upgraded which was a tad surprising as it contrasts with what Go-Ahead did - a large number of WVL's (both B7TL's & B9TL's) & E's were upgraded with cleaner emissions technology last year
