Am I correct in assuming that the only true inspectors remaining are RPI's? I believe that those folks by the roadside are "Route Monitors". The "Get that bus out, Butler." type of inspector has long ceased to exist if such an entity existed in real life in the first place.

When you mentioned 'Bus Inspectors', I was wondering if you were discussing maintenance, MOT's or revenue... It seems RPI's are on the decrease, though I imagine with the number of NBFL's to flood our streets that will need to be addressed, unless the 'customer service agents' can impress on conscience to make people touch in when using the LT's

it depends what you mean by inspector!! The roles have changed over the years, so what you would class as an inspector in old money is now something else, like:
Revenue Inspector: RPI (Revenue Protection inspector)
Roadside Inspector: Service Controller/Regulator, Route Controller, Ibus Controller or Company Official
Vehicle Inspector: Vehicle Examiner
Area Inspector: Area Controller, NTC (Network Traffic Controller- Formerly Area Traffic Controller), Performance Manager, etc
There's loads more.....
