Does anybody know when Lewisham Bus Station will be closing? Also, I saw the new terminus for the routes along Loampit Vale and I have to say that terminus looks too small for 11 routes to fit in that forecourt, so I wonder how the traffic will deal with the routes turning along Jerrard Street every 5 minutes.

Why is the bus station closing?

Why is the bus station closing? The land where the bus station is and across the roundabout area is going to get a huge development built on it. The traffic system in Lewisham is going to be changed all over again. I found the plans on the Lewisham Council website a few weeks ago.

All of the double deckers which use the bus station start from the Loampit Vale stops currently, so this will affect those single decker routes which use the stop on the side street next to the DLR station. I'd like to hope the P4 will use Loampit Vale purely for the fact that if I travel from Lewisham, I use the Lewisham Police Station stop where it's easier to catch it or the 185. If the single deckers move to Molesworth Street, that may be a problem.

It doesn't show revised bus stop locations at this point but does give some idea of the scale of change. Personally I think it will be an out of scale monstrosity but hey what do I know?

Looking at the map, post the redevelopment, the existing two bus stops on Loampit Vale outside the station could be moved to Molesworth Street. Rennell Street appears to become the connecting road to the A20 for all traffic including those bus routes which would serve Lewisham Police Station, Lee High Road and the High Street.
The temptation must be there for certain routes to run along the whole of Molesworth Street in both directions to improve reliability? I've been on late running buses which have dropped off passengers in Molesworth St to gain time back.

When Lewisham Bus Station is closed I do believe the 108 will stand in Molesworth Street, I'm not sure where it picks up its first passengers though, I think I saw this info on a notice in the garage or on the staff forum/website. Where ever all the routes end up and their starting points I'm sure your going to get loads of confused passenger, simply because they won't read the info provided by TfL.

With buses from Stratford dropping off at the top of the road nearest the station. However when the work is complete, Rennell Street or Lewisham High Street opposite the police station could become the drop off point for the 108 from Stratford.

I've been on late running buses which have dropped off passengers in Molesworth St to gain time back. I had a further look at the Planning Documents and this planned layout (may take time to download) shows where the bus stops will be. It looks like there will still be a bus station and taxi rank in front of the station and a load of stops along Molesworth St North which is a realignment of Molesworth St further west closer to the railway. If I was asked to speculate it looks like everything that runs down past Tesco will divert through the new bus station and down Molesworth Street. They then run round to rejoin Lewisham High Street via Rennell Street. Some buses from Loampit Vale will set down / pick up in Molesworth St although the two stops just before the railway bridge in Loampit Vale are retained - presumably for routes like the 21 and 436 that terminate in Lewisham and the Nat Exp coaches. Station Road where you catch the 484 today will be a bus set down area - I assume for terminating routes which then go off to the new stand. Obviously that does not answer all the questions as to what route will run which way but it looks to me like an awful lot of buses are going to routed through the new junction with Molesworth St, Station Road and Loampit Vale.

According to www.londonbusroutes.net, routes 181 and 284 will finish journeys at Lewisham Police Station and start journeys towards Grove Park at Loampit Vale. I'm guessing the new bus forecourt will now be open from then. This also happens from 1st March 2014.

I have been told the following.
The 108, 178 & 261 will stand on Molesworth Street.
All other routes to the new bus station.
The spider map is on the TFL website so anyone who wishes to check which route will stop where can.
The current first stop for the 89, 108 & 261, will become the first stop for the 181, 284, 484 & P4 according to the map. Routes 89, 178 & 261 start from Lewisham Police Station.
The 108 first stop will be Lewisham Centre and will not pick up on Molesworth Street, so effectively the new terminus is Lewisham, Shopping Centre.

Here is the map. www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/maps/buses/pdf/lewisham-010314.pdfI have decoded the map for easier reading, just incase someone does not know how to read them. Bus Stop: G will close - 181, 284, 484 & P4, this is why the large bus shelter was removed 6 months ago. 21, 54, 122, 180, 273, 436, 380, N21, N47, N89, N136 will remain serving all their current stops, this is obvious as none terminate at Lewisham Station. Lewisham Station Stops: Bus Stop: D will remain open served by all current routes. Bus Stop: C will now serve: 89, 181, 284, 321, 484 & P4. The 108, 178 & 261 will no longer serve this stop.. Makes sense for the 181, 284, 484 & P4 as all the routes all of these local services are the busiest single decker routes in Lewisham, many alight trains and wait for these routes. Bus Stop: H will become the first stop for the 178 & 261 which is Lewisham Police Station, this does make a bit of sense as both go via Lee High Road involves crossing the road, for some using any bus 1 stop from stop C or D. Bus Stop: V will be the 1st Stop for the 108, Lewisham Centre. Out if all the routes in Lewisham, I personally think the 108 will be the most difficult to access. People may even start using the 89 for 3 stops just to get to the 108.

From a Stagecoach perspective routes 208, 261 and P4 all get additional PVRs. The 75 is widened as well.
The 178 is extended within the time saved from the removal from the Kidbrooke Estate.
Although buses will still show Lewisham Bus Station the last stops will be opposite the police station.
The plan is to move to the new bus station on 1st March. Although it is not yet finished and no successful route tests have been undertaken......
Vehicles - the new bus for the 208 arrived in August last year, the 261 has a new vehicle on order but this will go to TL for the peak 208/75 working and leave the 208 E400 at TB and TL have had one ex 372 E200 for some time.....

I know there are going to be some big construction works going on but those changes are dreadful. Getting to the station is horrible enough already but breaking convenient interchange on such a vast scale is daft. People having to get to / from the Police Station from the DLR / rail station is clumsy. The 108 change is particularly irksome. I did actually use the bus / DLR interchange today just in case you think I'm moaning from afar and won't be affected. < makes note to not visit Lewisham for next 5-6 years >
