After many months wait the Key Smartcard on the Southern Railway network can now be used for seasons into London termini (Victoria and London Bridge). Outside the London zonal area it seems it is now available on much of the Southern network but not all of it - seems to struggle when a different TOC runs the station! Within London only East Croydon and Clapham Junction provide acceptance facilities intermediately.
There is no other intermediate availability within London - I assume this requires some cleverness between TfL and Southern's system and all readers being switched over to read Oyster and ITSO. I expect this will happen in 2014.

The Southern FAQ about the Key says that Travelcards will be able to added to Key cards in February 2014. I expect there will be a general extension of ITSO smartcard acceptance from Feb 2014 but Southern is the only TOC with a suitably advanced scheme that can talk to the TfL system. It will be interesting to see if concessionary passes from outside London will be able to be read on TfL buses from this time.
I would also expect that the extension of bank card acceptance to rail modes and introduction of capping coincides with this change. Therefore two big fares issues in 2014 - the increase as usual in Jan and then different card acceptance come February.
Other ticket types and concessions will be added next year as will acceptance within the Greater London area - both at Southern stations and on TfL services.
Seems Susan Kramer also turned up to do the old photo op at Victoria.
