I have walked up Stock Hill before and it was like a gym workout. You need strong calves to walk up that hill. Crouch End, Muswell Hill & Ally Pally are all workouts as well. I find it quite funny actually the number of people who wait for a 144/W7 at the bottom of Muswell Hill to get to the top because of how steep it is lmao. Same with the W3 although that’s a bit longer up to Ally Pally. Ferme Park Road on the W3 is pretty steep although it does make for a good run. If you start at the bottom near Stapleton Hall Road it’s mainly an uphill stretch to Mount View Road and then a long downhill stretch to Tottenham Lane. If you want a real challenge, it would be to do it in the opposite direction as the hill definitely seems steeper between Tottenham Lane & Mount View Road. Another road even if it isn’t served by a regular bus service (the 102 HAS gone down there on diversion I believe) is St James’ Lane in Muswell Hill. That hill is really steep especially between the Parkland Walk Viaduct & St James’ Church. Barnet Hill is pretty bad especially if you walk from Underhill up to Wood Street. Even leaving the station via the path up to the High Street is a task in itself. Engel Park in Mill Hill I’ve personally never found too bad although certainly some of the DWs struggled up it on the 221. The HVs whizz up it from what I see.

It doesn't cope - usually, the 320, 464 & R2 are turned short. The R2's MAN's (when they worked) were very good up that hill but certain Omnidekka's were apparently banned for being too slow I was even thinking to myself there's no way I could walk the full length of Stock Hill. That Hill is way to steep and even going past the airport where I saw Sunningvale Avenue I thought to myself how do people cope in that area with the hills. They have some nice houses and it's very leafy but those hills sheesh. Agree - when I did the 320 end to end I had planned to walk from the last stop to the main road (it’s actually called that) to get the 246 to westerham. One look and I decided to just wait for the 320 to get me back

My bus journey today;
ML VW1068 E8 Busch Corner to Boston Manor station 1973 Piccadilly stock to Holborn thence gloomy Central Line to Wanstead station - love the utilitarian station decor on this Eastern section of the CL - manages to make it look a "bit Council house" even below ground. Then attempted at bit of photography around Wanstead station / High street area - mainly for the 101's - it's a pleasant little area. Photgraphy made hard but the cloud not being thick enough to prevent shadow and a JFT moment when a M&S delivery lorry decided to park on double yellows and block one carriageway and back the traffic up past the bus stop. So GAL WVL472 on the 101 from there to the delightfully named "Ron Leighton Way" in East Ham for some more frustratingly shadowy shots including GAL E135 on the 104. Then GAL VWL491 to Beckton Bus Station on the 101 past Newham Town Hall which is the most magnificent building. Some nice shadow free full sun shots there including GAL WHV2 on a staff bus working and TT 44701 on a training run. Finally GAL WVL474 for the final 101 leg to the DLR depot front-door step & work. Drove home - long day - just couldn't face the Jubilee line and it's ear-splitting noise (which I usually wear ear-plugs for 👌)

Right so now that I have a bit of free time on my hands I'm going to try and attempt to do the 246 during this festive season.

My bus journey today .......... Off a N shift, slept until 10;30 - woke and decided do the VHR's on the 125 so drove from Isleworth ....... straight into the Stobart tanker saga at the Chiswick roundabout 😒 Got round that and made it to Winchmore Hill - parked up and spend a pleasant 2 hours phot'ing the VHR's & VH's on the 125 plus various AL T's on the 329 and more importantly getting 3 opportunities to photo SW1 on the 329 and finally get SW3 & SW7 in the bag. Drove to Edmonton Green and stood near ASDA's phot'ing a succession of LT's on the 149 / 259 / 349 at times it resembles those long lines of Routemasters in Oxford Street back in the day. Nothing particular of note ............ LT3 / 4 & 5 - thanks to the driver of LT4 who realised I'd been "bounced" whilst fighting with my shite mobile and hadn't switched on the camera yet ..... held his vehicle back a few seconds ......... thank you Sir 👍. A few nice overall liveried LT's about. Drove round the A406 to the DLR depot - parked up and took the DLR to Prince Regent for a rendezvous with AL ENL71 which I haven't photo'd yet. Then DLR up to Stratford International for some 308 / 339's but mostly for the 108 MEC's and some Scania action on the 97. Getting dark by now so DLR to Stratford and a nice long 262 trip on TT VN37847 back to work for the N shift. Now lying in bed again thinking I'll track down ML DE1167 later today on the U2 / U3 hopefully. EDIT - it's out and on the A10 .......... so later 👌

Right so now that I have a bit of free time on my hands I'm going to try and attempt to do the 246 during this festive season. Do it on Sunday or Monday for the full length experience to Chartwell 👍🏻

Right so now that I have a bit of free time on my hands I'm going to try and attempt to do the 246 during this festive season. Has it restarted? If so I’m going to try doing it on Monday if it’s running then. It’s been on my radar since my dad moved to Biggin Hill three years ago but I’ve never got round to it. Sadly I missed out on when Metrobus ran there.

Sadly I missed out on when Metrobus ran there. I did it early in Stagecoach's tenure (summer 2020) as was the only way I could visit Chartwell. I ended up going on the day of the Biggin Hill air show - nice to see all the planes overhead but at its most crowded! (My biggest mistake was walking back to Westerham, got more lost than you could imagine!) Knowing the 246, it'll spring back to MB upon retender in 3/5 years.
