196 & 468 on Knights Hill - you get a good view of Central London from the top of the hill. Another good view, this time of everything beyond Norwood Junction, on South Norwood Hill 196, 249 & 468 on Beulah Hill - lovely view of Croydon from the upper deck as you pass Priory Close Plus one of the side roads (southbound just after all Saints Church) is called Grange Hill.

The Mitcham bound 200 going down Wimbledon Hill gives a brief good view of south London in the direction of Crystal Palace. Unfortunately such a view can only be seen from a double-decker.

363 at the Sydenham Hill/Kirkdale junction gives excellent views of Central London if travelling on an Elephant & Castle bound bus.
I like the 405 as it leaves Coulsdon and enters the more scenic Merstham despite the M25.

The 60 gives a good downhill view between old Coulsdon and the A23.

175 also gives a good view of the whole of London from the top deck on a clear day at Hillrise Estate

I know the title of the thread said "rural / Scenic" but it's interesting how all the answers are to with rural routes or panoramic views from the tops of hills. No mention of central London routes that take you past stonking architecture or which cross the Thames with great views or even take you past derelict and run down places. It's all history and we'd be wrong to ignore the "dumpy" bits of London before they're redeveloped or gentrified. Also no mention of other routes that show you the "villages" of London and their differing architecture and communities. When I rode the 355 earlier this year when the Mercedes was on it I enjoyed seeing the bits of Brixton and Clapham I'd never been to before. I don't know if Blakey has seen or read the blog from the ladies who bus (one bus at a time) but they always find something of interest or history on every route they've ridden which shows what a great place London is. It might be a good source of inspiration for other journeys.

264 is rural between Rochford Way and The Ravensbury Arms. Despite this stretch only being 1.5 miles, you pass through 3 boroughs! (Croydon, Sutton and Merton)

(Croydon, Sutton and Merton) The 264 doesn't actually go into any part of the borough of Sutton, though part of the routing's not all that far from the Merton/Sutton borderline.

Yes it does Redhouse Road (which it goes past) is Sutton, I've lived on the route a long time

Yes it does Redhouse Road (which it goes past) is Sutton, I've lived on the route a long time But it doesn't run down Redhouse Road so the 264 doesn't run in the borough of Sutton - just the borough of Croydon then at Redhouse Road itself, it runs into the borough of Merton. It also runs in the borough of Wandsworth just after Tooting Station.
