Hi All,
Just wanted to find out what your views were in regards to Hounslow Bus Station. As you may well be aware the roof over the forecourt was removed in 2007. Do you think this was a good idea? Is there any plans to bring the roof back allowing passengers to board from the bus station again?
Also what do you think about the fleet and the routes they run on?
(This is my first thread so apologies if I've done something wrong)

Where's the option for liking all the SP batches - that would get my vote and possibly the only vote on the entire forum lol.

Can't decide between 6-15 or 108/136/165-190 because these are actually okay (I would take an ADE or VP/TA any day though!) The partial 'Plumsteadification' of AV is another thing I like (caught VP111 on the 111 today ) 111 service has gone down the drain though! Will be very surprised (and shocked) if they gain the contract extension. In my view the roof was a bit dated, but they should've repeated the 120 stop idea across all of the stands, but then again AV has small space. Also, SP38 is more like 41-51 in my view

I'm never really in favour of losing bus stations where people have the ability to wait for a range of services with some weather protection. Sure the old bus station was not ideal but IMO London has never been terribly good at designing bus stations that work. Even these days very few of them get anywhere close to the best practice outside of London. Hounslow is a major centre and actually deserves a bus station that all the routes use given they all pass the bus garage or get very close (H20 is the exception from what I can see). Unfortunately you couldn't incorporate it with the tube and the SWT service given the stations are spread all over. However it is just daft that bus stops are spread about the town centre making interchange awkward and not weather proof. The bigger problem if a bus station was built was how you would manage the flow of buses in and out. I have yet to find a TfL bus station, with the possible exception of North Greenwich, where movements in and out are not in conflict thus requiring traffic light control.
I have no views about LU's Scanias having hardly ridden on them.

Perhaps there were safety concerns. I was a frequent user of Hounslow Bus Station in the mid-1970's. It consisted of a half dozen or so very narrow waiting areas (two people standing side by side) located between narror stands barely wide enough for the (then) modern buses using them. There was just no safe way for intending passengers to reach their remote waiting area without walking across the area used by endless buses arriving on stand.

Possibly safety but I expect low floor buses and wheelchair access is the thing that has killed off all the older bus stations. The islands were narrow and there's no way someone could come off a bus ramp in a wheelchair and not crash into an adjacent bus or fall off the kerb into the next lane. Victoria Bus Station was rebuilt to get rid of such a layout. A bus station at Hounslow would require quite a lot of space and reorganisation of the current garage buildings and the mess office that is near the main road. I don't know who owns what land at Hounslow but I can't see London United relinquishing a square inch of land if it affected their ability to run their services.

I also agree with you in regards to the 111 it has been shocking over recent years. Being a regular user it's so frustrating. I agree with you that the space at AV is small however surely some re modelling could have be done? Well seeing as there's a push for the two centre to be regenerated maybe there would be a possibility of a new bus station.

There is space at HH. Any number of routes could transfer there to make space.
