Forgive me if this is in the wrong place, but didn't know where exactly it should go. It seems like the direct link here (and any subsequent links on the tfl site and google) trys to display a route map in text only instead of google maps. Any idea whats up? Direct linkIt's been like that for a few weeks now. I've seen no official explanation but I do wonder if it is linked to the development of the new TfL website. This is now several months late (compared to the initial announcement) and I just wonder if TfL have allowed some of the licensing rights for the old (i.e. still in use) website to lapse. This is on the basis that they'd planned to have the new site and its functionality up and running by now. There is probably no point in trying to secure a short term license for the mapping or to do work on the old site if a switch on of the new one is fairly imminent. If my guess is right then I can't see TfL explaining as it would reveal that something has gone wrong! As another example TfL have updated the 2014 fares on their website but have only linked to pdfs of the new values rather than drafting new web based tables. I appreciate this is inconvenient in the short term for those who relied on the old maps. I tend to use the Countdown pages to bring up a route diagram with stops as this uses the openstreetmap mapping system rather than Google Maps.

Yes indeed, I think you have hit the nail on the head Mr. Snoggle! I emailed TfL a while back about the maps and got this reply......
"Thank you for your email of 27 November regarding an enquiry for bus route maps on our website. I am sorry you experienced problems when using our services and apologise for any inconvenience this caused you. We have made a recent change to the bus route tool. As part of the development of the new TfL website, we are introducing new bus maps. This feature will be available from mid December. The site itself will be fully live in the early months of 2014."
I was a bit gutted the Google Maps had gone too - they were very handy indeed, not to mention interesting! Hopefully these new maps will have a similar approach.......

Diamond Geezer appears to have tracked down the updated bus map functionality on the Beta version of the new TfL website. Ironically they are not shown under the "Maps" heading but under "Buses". See diamondgeezer.blogspot.co.uk/ for more info as to how to track down the new Google Bus Maps. It's quite swish if you like that sort of thing.
