Earlier this evening, me and my family were involved in a minor RTA involving Metroline's DC1556 whilst it was on the U3. As the driver turned left onto Belmont Road, he rear ended our stationary car, we were waiting to turn right into the Prezzo car park. No one was hurt except the bumper now sports a red go faster strip Fair play to the driver involved, he straight away admitted it was his mistake, exchanged details and even apologised for ruining our meal. As can be seen in the above picture, the damage to the bus (to me) seems fairly minimal but the driver immediately took it out of service. Is this standard practice? The last time I bus on a bus involved in a RTA (back in the mid 90's, a MA on the U3) the driver just exchanged details and we went on our way, with a nice big dent along the nearside skirting!

It seems to be. I was in a minor RTA in Eastbourne on an ADL Enviro 300 - the rear right bumper was cracked after a car drove fairly slowly into it. The car had blue paint from the bumper & a massive dent in the bonnet. We were chucked off and had to wait for another bus. I even saw one RTA where a VLA and a car were involved - everyone was chucked off despite the bus remaining undamaged.....unlike the car whose bumper was hanging completely off! In the mid 90's, I was on a Cowie M on the 118 when a car drove into the side - our driver just beeped and continued driving.

Not standard practice. I was involved in a minor RTA, exchanged details with other driver, who was at fault and was screaming at me until I showed him the cctv cameras, he soon shut up. Informed radio room and was on way in service.

Seems a bit extreme to me to take it out of service
No damage to any lights, the bumper has no sharp edges and is not in danger of imminent detachment from the vehicle. The bus is perfectly fit for service.
However the driver might have been instructed to transfer passengers and run light for time purposes after the delay of the incident.
I have been involved in a few minor damage only incidents over the years (only 1 my fault so far... Fingers crossed) and all but a couple I continued in service, had a bumper ripped off, front door glass smashed, and indicator lense broken and all of them where taken out of service, the rest you put the damage on the defect card and continue. And then there was the time a 96 pulled the front corner off my 480 In Dartford... That had to come out of service!!!

In agreement with the other comments here. That could of easily stayed in service. That said, glad to hear it wasn't too serious
