Hello,
Is there any reason Tower Transit concentrate it's older buses on route W14? I see the new extra DP buses have started to appear on this route.
Also the older DMC class are regulars on the route. Would it not better to spread the older fleet across the single decker routes.

And reason why DPs are on the W14 and W15 is because they are not allowed the 308. Sent from Blackberry.

What's the reason they can't be used on route 308 ? Wouldn't really call route 308 a high profile route that can't have older buses.

Route 388 is allowed to use old buses but the 308 Isn't.

Right I think we can put this "DP's aren't allowed on the 308" stuff to bed. I refer you all to this screen shot of DP42601's history.

I rather suspect it has something to do with the point in time in the duration of the contract when the route was varied. The 308 was relet relatively recently compared with the 97 or 388. It would be unaffordable to replace the vehicles on the 97 or 388 just because the route has been extended so it's no surprise they haven't been replaced. I guess TfL would prefer to keep a new vehicle profile on the 308. It seems TfL only tolerate older vehicles appearing on a route later in the contract term - this happens with Arriva and I assume it's with TfL's consent (e.g. DLAs appearing on the 123 towards the end of its first contract term).

Would be nice if this route was extended to stratford city and serves woodford station eastbound to make an efficient alternative route for the eastern end of the central line. Tfl could remove the 339 extension if they thought it would be pointless to have two services from westfield to leytonstone. Route would serve leyton high road, leyton road to give thornham grove residents another bus service.

I would not recommend Route W14 to be diverted via Woodford Station due to the large demand for the route on Broadmead Road (Orchard Estate). It does generate patronage there as well as Chigwell Road for persons travelling to and from South Woodford and Wanstead. I would create two school journey's to extend and serve West Hatch High School and loop back via Manor Road. Bus stops are along the route already!

Thanks for the info, but the W14 would be useful in providing the link between leytonstone high road/town centre and stratford relieving the 257 but the 339 serves the quicker less busy corridors making it less efficient. This extension will allow the frequency to increase to maybe 11-12 minutes as the 15 minutes is pretty poor.

You've nailed it nad1152597! I've known this route for about 16 years (based on memory) and it still amazes me in regards to the number of passengers it can pick up between Leytonstone Green Man and Harrow Green and even at Leyton Asda's! A decent number of people wait on the bus at Asda to go 2 to 4 stops!

I couldn't agree with you more Jamaicarussa!! The W14 is a pretty useful route connecting leyton and leytonstone and eastern central line stations and can sometimes be unable to cope with loadings! This is a local route of mine and it could help the W15 better if it was more regular! It would be a route to connect with other bus services in leyton and stratford!
