Overview
The London bus network is kept under regular review. As part of this, we develop proposals for changes to services.
Why We Are Consulting
We have developed proposals to increase capacity at school times on route 367 in the Shirley Oaks and Monks Orchard area including a new school route 689 and would like to hear your views.
Route 367 runs between West Croydon and Bromley North via Elmers End. On schooldays two additional journeys operate along the whole length of the route, departing West Croydon at 0735 in the morning and departing Bromley at 1453 in the afternoon. 45-capacity single-deck buses are used as roads in Shirley Oaks can not accommodate larger vehicles.
Proposals
We propose to introduce a new schooldays-only route 689 between West Croydon and Monks Orchard (The Glade / Glade Gardens). It would have one journey in the morning from West Croydon and one in the afternoon from Monks Orchard. It would mirror route 367, except it would run via Shirley Road and Wickham Road rather than via Shirley Oaks giving extra capacity where required. 87-capacity double-deck vehicles would be used.
Route 689 would replace the current schooldays-only journeys on the 367. Trees along Orchard Avenue have been trimmed to allow safe double-deck operation.
To provide more capacity east of Monks Orchard two new schooldays-only journeys would be introduced on part of route 367. A morning journey would run from the Bromley Road / St Georges Church stop in Beckenham, finishing at the Glade Gardens stop in Monks Orchard at approximately 0800. The afternoon journey would depart the Glade Gardens stop at 1525 and finish at the Bromley Road / St Georges Church stop in Beckenham. We are aiming to introduce these changes in April, subject to the outcome of this consultation.
