I am looking forward to doing an all nighter , my plan is to do N21 from BX to T square , N97 to Hammersmith, 33 to Fulwell , N22 to Piccadilly Circus then N47 to st Mary cray I have done trips in the past that were "make it up as you go" which are fine. For recent journeys I've had the basic route in my head and have only checked a few timings where routes are low frequency. If I was doing very low frequency services then they have to be planned for or else you risk being stuck for over an hour. I'd not want to get stuck on the wilds of the 492 with an hourly headway! However saying that I had 40 mins wait for the 404 but grabbed some lunch to while away the time. I-Bus and London Bus Routes website accessible via a mobile phone are invaluable aids. I was sketching out some of my "loop" routes earlier on to try to fill in some more gaps. Some will definitely require timings to be planned. Night buses always require planning IMO given the risk of getting stuck without alternatives out in the suburbs. I have a night bus orbital plan to go right round London "on the shelf" - maybe this Summer when it's warmer.

Update - W11, W14 and W19 finished off today coupled with ludicrous wait for a 275 - nearly 25 minutes which is worse than a Sunday.

Only three routes come to mind where I've stayed on the same bus throughout. 12, 176 and 227.
However I've travelled the whole route in stages on 63, 75, 197, 312 (when it was Peckham to South Croydon Garage) 363, P4.

I never normally stay on the same bus when travelling an end to end route usually sample a few different buses on the route.

Tomorrow, I'm going to be going out on a plan. Now I won't say what the plan was until tomorrow night, but this could be the furthest I've travelled by bus in London.

As promised my 'planned' trip for this weekend. Initially it was: - R70 to Richmond
- Then cover 391 to Sands End
- Take 391 back to Fulham
- After that, take the fastest route to Lewisham Station
- Then, to take a 208 from Lewisham to Orpington, Perry Hall Road
- Short hop to Orpington to cover 51 end-to-end
- From Woolwich take any bus to Plumstead to cover 53 back into Central London
- From Whitehall, cover quickest route to West Brompton, to cover 190 back to Richmond
- R70 back to base
Planned to leave at 10am.
In reality it was: - 111 to Kingston
- 57 from Kingston to Wimbledon
- 156 from Wimbledon to Vauxhall
- 436 from Vauxhall to Lewisham
- 208 from Lewisham to Perry Hall Road
- 353-R4-R6 from Perry Hall Road, first Walnuts Centre, then War Memorial then Orpington Station
- 51 from Orpington to Woolwich
- 96 from Woolwich to Plumstead
- 53 from Plumstead to Whitehall
- 159 from Whitehall to Marble Arch
- 74 from Oxford Street to Hyde Park Corner
- 10 from Hyde Park Corner to Hammersmith
- 190 from Hammersmith to Richmond
- R70 back home
Left at 11:10, got home 22:00. Not going to be doing such trips for a couple weeks now, gotta do Uni Work!
'Clean' 51, 53, 156 and 208 can now join the list of covered routes

'Clean' 51, 53, 156 and 208 can now join the list of covered routes Please don't think I'm being critical but why didn't you just walk up one stop from Whitehall to T Sq to catch the 9 to Hammersmith? Going via Oxford St can't have been much fun.
