My next route I'm planning on doing is the H12. Partially because 1 I haven't really used that bus since it's metroline days properly and 2 I know it's got my favourite Ultra Cap hybrids on that route.
Hopefully from Long Elmes to the Stanmore end it's decent and not a slog.
I forgot to add. Someone once told me the H12 from South Harrow to Long Elmes is more quicker than the 140. So I want to do this challenge to see if it's true. (I slyly think it's false but I want to prove the point). I know the 258 is the quicker route out of the three but for this challenge its strictly between the H12 and 140

However from Harrow Weald to Harrow Bus Station, you can often save time taking the H19 (via Headstone Lane) compared to one of the routes via Wealdstone. So the H19 then changing to the X140 (then non-stop to South Harrow) might be the quickest, depending on connection times.

So I did the challenge and yeah the H12 is not quicker to get to Long Elmes from South Harrow against the 140. So that was challenge failed hahahaha.
I did like it around Hatch End and Pinner. Still a nice day out doing this though.

Still a nice day out doing this though. The H12 is the successor to the 209, a route which only commenced operating in May 1952 between Harrow Weald Garage and South Harrow Station. Much of the route had been unserved prior to that date, and at the time of introduction the route was unique as it did not encounter any traffic lights along the route. The 209 was extended to Edgware in 1985 to part-replace the 286 which was withdrawn The route was mostly replaced in November 1987 by route H12 operating between South Harrow and Stanmore Station. Route H12 started out as a higher-frequency midibus route, although school journeys remained with double-deck buses as route 209. These journeys were also renumbered H12 in July 1992. The vehicles got progressively larger as custom grew, and full double-deck operation was scheduled from September 2004 when Metroline took over the contract.

273, 394.
Outstanding recent route changes on the 485 and S1 still to do which in total amounts to less than a mile of road.
All the rest - done. Including those awkward bits of night-only routes on the N9, N91 and N550.

That will leave me only a few tiny bits of one-way operation (sometimes without an intermediate stop such as over the Old Kent Road flyover) and temporary diversions before I can claim to have travelled over all London bus routes. At least so far as the maps are concerned. The inability to reach Chalk Farm Morrisons by bus until the roadworks are complete is a nuisance; that will be the last little bit I can't get to.

Nowadays if I were heading to Hackney I would most likely hop on an Overground but there were times when I was younger where I'd hop on at Angel and head that way instead of going via the 30 or 56
Definitely agree, love the 394!

The 273 was dealt with on Wednesday last week. The 394 is due tomorrow. The 394 will take you around all kinds of parts of backstreet Hoxton and Hackney that you might never know existed. I used to find it a fascinating route - although not everyone might agree with me! Indeed. The 394 was dealt with today alongside a few other tiny bits and pieces of one-way system. That route goes around corners LT would never have approved for a bus route. But it's well used and clearly a local lifeline. And that's it. I have travelled end-to-end on every scheduled London bus route (not including the 600-series school buses) though not quite over every inch of route currently served. That is due to route changes and one-way systems which have altered things since I travelled in some areas years ago. I started marking up the (then-LT) maps in 1972 when the first trip of significance was Victoria - 16 - Cricklewood - 32 - Edgware - 107 - Aldenham Works - 107 - Ponders End - 121 - Enfield Town - 29 - Victoria. Somewhat earlier than that I had travelled on all routes in the Uxbridge area thanks to having family in Yiewsley and Cowley. The old 607 (trolleybuses), new 207 (Routemasters), 98, 98A, 198, 204, 223, 224, 224A and 224B were all "knocked off". The old 224A ran down to Swan Road in West Drayton which was considered to be unremunerative and was duly withdrawn; today it's part of the U3 running much more often than hourly. The 224 all the way to Laleham was a trek and a half and a treat for a young lad who was even at that age interested in RTs. But the real treat was to be taken on the green buses. RTs to Windsor on the 457 / 457A and (if visiting grandparents - which was a trial to be feared) on the 321 to Garston. For some reason we went on a 347 once - maybe the 321 didn't turn up. As of today the 2016 TfL maps which I have been using to record more recent travels are just about fully inked-in. An ambition which I set myself some time ago has effectively been achieved. And of course that includes many places which haven't seen a "red" London bus in years. RTs to Epping Forest (Wake Arms) on the 217 and, if you were lucky, down the hill to Loughton Garage on the hourly meal-break extension. RFs across north-west Surrey to Ripley, Downside, Cobham and Weybridge as well as the Surrey-border routes around Thames Ditton. And - the run to beat them all - an RT all the way from Poplar to Chipping Ongar which beyond Romford was an almost unused 175 (later 175A) which seemed to run for miles through completely unpopulated countryside and defied all logic of being a crew-operated "central area" route. Before reversing into an unlikely residential road in deepest Essex to turn around, pause for the crew's smoke-break, and then all the way back with just as many passengers ..... One!
