FOI Enfield Bus Review
My initial thoughts are not very positive.
Summary of changes given Enfield Council have not produced one single document explaining their changes - this may take multiple edits to get right.
34 - no change
102 - no change
144 - no change
149 - no change
259 - no change
279 - no change
121 - split into two at Enfield Town. Western service curtailed at Wood Green rather than Turnpike Lane and curtailed at Enfield Lock. Eastern half diverted via the 491 corridor via Ordnance Road to run Enfield Town to Enfield Island Village. Night service added to this eastern route. Each section reduced to 5 bph.
125 - extended to Winchmore Hill Sainsburys with apparently no impact on the PVR. How? Frequency unchanged.
141 - extended to Winchmore Hill (Station Road). Frequency unchanged.
191 - route to be split in two. Western loop via Forty Hill area withdrawn completely and partly covered by revised 231 and 313. The Eastern part of the route restructured to run Waltham Cross to Tottenham Hale via the A1010 corridor but with diversions via Brimsdown and Ponders End stations (current route 191 sections but linked across Ponders End) and then Bounces Lane, Northumberland Park, Edmonton Green, Lansdown Rd and Monument Way to Tottenham Hale). Frequencies 5 bph.
192 - withdrawn Tottenham Hale to Edmonton Green. Frequency unchanged.
217 - increased in frequency slightly to compensate for loss of 231 between Edmonton Cambridge and Turnpike Lane and withdrawal of 317. Increased to 6 bph.
231 - withdrawn between Turnpike Lane and Edmonton Cambridge. Diverted to North Middlesex Hospital. In Enfield diverted to take over the western loop of the 191 with a further diversion via The Ridgeway and Chase Farm Hospital. Extended to Waltham Cross via Enfield Highway after Hoe Lane (where the current 191 starts to loop south to Ponders End). Would run every 15 mins.
232 - converted to double deck. No change to frequencies.
298 - withdrawn Arnos Grove to Southgate. No frequency change.
299 - withdrawn Southgate to Cockfosters. No frequency change.
307 - frequency reduction to 5 bph.
307 Express – proposed as an additional service to run Chingford, Ponders End, Enfield Town, Oakwood, East Barnet, Barnet, Barnet Hospital and possibly to Edgware.
313 - diverted via part of 377 between Enfield Town and Ponders End via Bush Hill Park. Withdrawn from Southbury Road. Withdrawn from the Ridgeway and diverted via part of the 191 and Gordon Hill station between Enfield Town and Chase Farm Hospital. No frequency change.
317 - withdrawn completely. Part replaced by 217 and revised 231.
318 - to be extended from North Middlesex Hospital to Chase Farm Hospital via Winchmore Hill. Replaces part of the W9. To run from NM Hospital to Edmonton Cambridge, Hedge Lane, Firs Farm, Winchmore Hill, Highlands Village, route 377 to Enfield Town, Chase Side, Gordon Hill and Chase Farm Hospital. I am unclear how this route could run reliably from Stamford Hill to Chase Farm Hospital. The northern part of the route is 3 bph. Southern section at 4 bph. This suggests there are two separate routes.
327 - serves an expanded loop working via parts of Hoe Lane, Carterhatch and Enfield Lock station. No comment on frequency, hours / days of operation. Increased to 3 bph.
329 - reduced in frequency from 9 to 6 bph. Extended from Enfield Town via the W8 to Chase Farm Hospital.
341 - possible short extension to Industrial area east of IKEA Edmonton. Not decided if 341 or 444 will serve this area.
349 - withdrawn completely without any obvious replacement. Residents of Tottenham can *%*$*£(£(£(£ themselves.
377 - Restructured and merged with part of the W9. Section from Ponders End to Enfield Town via Bush Hill Park replaced by 313. Not sure how 10.8m ENXs will fit through Bush Hill Park. . Western section completely changed to run from Chase Farm Hospital via route W9 to Highlands Village then picks up part of 377 route to Oakwood and then extended via undefined route to Barnet Hospital. New section to run at 3 bph.
398/399 - Restructured service to run from Barnet Hospital (how?) to Barnet Spires then via 399 to Ferny Hill then to Cockfosters Station to pick up section of route 299 to Southgate. Provides link from Southgate to Barnet Hospital. Unclear from proposals how Hadley Wood loop is covered and which direction. Unclear as to how Underhill area of Barnet is covered if 389 is changed. Frequencies 2 bph.
444 - minor diversions via Industrial area to east of IKEA Edmonton and also diverted between Montagu Road and Silver Street. Possible diversion via Meridian Water. Frequency unchanged.
491 - Completely restructured. One service will run North Middlesex Hospital to Enfield via existing 491 to Ponders End then via Ponders End Station, Enfield Retail Park and Southbury Road to Enfield Chase Station. Section from Ponders End to Enfield Island Village covered via revised "eastern" 121. New northern part of 491 to run Enfield Island Village to Waltham Cross with a diversion to serve Waltham Cross Station thus linking bus and rail station in Waltham Cross. Both sections to run 4 bph.
W4 - extended from Oakthorpe Park to North Middlesex Hospital. Converted to double deck. Can't wait to see Broadwater Farm demolished by the buses. Frequency unchanged.
W6 - converted to double deck. Extended from Edmonton Green to Picketts Lock to replace W8 on this section. Frequency unchanged.
W8 - Withdrawn Chase Farm Hospital to Enfield Town. Withdrawn Edmonton Green to Picketts Lock. Diverted to Tottenham Hale with later diversion via Meridian Water development when built. Reduced frequency of 5 bph.
W9 - withdrawn completely.
W10 - vastly increased to run Crews Hill - Arnos Grove. Replaces 298 between Arnos Grove and Southgate and W9 Southgate to Palmers Green. New link via Firs Lane area to Enfield then existing W10 but with a loop working via Whitewebbs Museum, Capel Manor and Forty Hall. Frequencies to be 4 bph south of Enfield Town. 2 bph north of Enfield Town.
