An interesting action noted in the Surface Transport Panel papers. TfL are reviewing the possibility of providing a Christmas Day Bus Service - see first action. Update due on 30 October 2014. I'm not going to hold my breath. Paper

Oooh i wondering it not possible to have all bus routes running on christmas day? Being "Dr Cynical" ( ) I predict the outcome of the investigation will be that there will be some limited scope for services on limited corridors in London but given the lack of finance and no overall business case TfL will not proceed with the idea. I think the chance of all routes running would be zero.

Oooh i wondering it not possible to have all bus routes running on christmas day? I think only routes serving Heathrow (plus maybe an 'daytime' N9 on Christmas Day only) and/or routes serving major hospitals would run. Alternatively they can have 'Christmas specials' for that time only.

If buses were to run Xmas Day why not have it the way it use to be on Boxing Day where just a small selection of routes ran but did so the length of two routes, eg 37 beyond Putney via 337 to Richmond (baring in mind the 37 now goes to Putney Heath). An alternative could be to have some night routes run throughout that day.

I would suggest night routes running during the day N15 would be ideal serving Romford, Barking and onward to Central London 25 would also be good but suspect it would suffer over crowding on a low frequency

Seen a pic of a Capital City Bus on route 277

Well it needs a really good reason for TFL to start operating on Christmas since they will be paying for it, why would they START?
I can't see it tbh, if they do then those that don't celebrate Christmas will make a nice earner especially if they do boxing day as well.

I would never work on Christmas day no matter how much pay I was offered as it is a religious holiday for me.

Don't they pay for services the other 364 days of the year (365 on leap years of course), to the tune of almost £600m in subsidy. So apart from it being Christmas day what is the difference?

I have always found it peculiar that London Transport provided Christmas Day services up to the mid 1970's. If there ever was demand it is now , with a far more diverse workforce and people strapped for cash willing to earn extra money.
Lots of essential workers still need to get to work , some haven't got cars ( i.e me !!)
Each boroughs main routes should run along with routes into Heathrow. Its actually a very busy day at Heathrow Xmas Day , especially in morning.
