Has anyone yet participated in this recent craze for a good deed? I have not yet been nominated but was thinking of doing one ahead of being 'targeted' for the challenge.

I've been nominated twice but as of yet, I've yet to participate in this craze! Yes it may sound harsh as it is for a good cause but I've already done my good deed for the week- A 26 yr old work colleague of mine has suffered a severe stroke and is currently on a life support machine in Charing Cross Hospital, me and all our work force have made a contribution towards any future health care he needs, to which my company (DHL) will double once all contributions have been made.

I think this is getting silly now. My Facebook timeline is full of people doing it BUT no mention of the charities!
I'm no sheep so won't be taking part.

Although I got nominated at a party last week, but I'm not too sure if I want to be part of this craze... If I do it, I might post a video up here

I regularly donate to the Stroke Assoc amongst others, strokes can happen at any age and don't only happen to 'old people', best wishes to your colleague. If this silly ice bucket craze increases charity donations then all well and good.

I have had a friend who has recently died of terminal cancer and should I take up the challenge, whether nominated or not, the money raised will go to the relevant cause.

It's pathetic.
If people feel moved to donate to charity then please donate to charity and do it privately. No one needs to know how "wonderful" you're being by giving some money away. Throwing freezing cold water over people is stupid. Worse it's caused conflict and argument between charities as to who "created" the idea in the first place and who should be getting the money. The effort to have the argument should be directed to helping people. If all the effort to film people getting wet and tweeting about it was spent working with the charities they'd be much better off. I'm afraid people applying "hype" tactics to charity work just puts me off the whole thing including the problem the hype is supposed to be addressing.

I believe that is in breach of the Forum rules. I think that people "nominating" people on this forum, to have buckets of ice cold water thrown over them, is a form of "cyber bullying" given many people do not know each other and only form opinions based on what is written. Note who was nominated for a dunking earlier and how many people jumped on that bandwagon. I have only met 2 forum members directly and 1 indirectly. I wouldn't wish ice cold water on any of them or anyone else for that matter. I know what I believe and why I believe it. I cannot bear this sort of overhyped rubbish which is all about having some sort of "profile".

As much as I disagree with 'snoggle' & 'dan' on their views regarding the Ice Bucket Challenge, I think they're perfectly entitled to have those opinions - I don't think 'not being a bundle of laughs' has anything to do with it either.

I did not make personal remarks so am not "having it both ways". I stand by my views and I am not the one "nominating" people against their will.
