This afternoon, T54 was damaged in Park Street on the 466 after a man in his 30's ran across the road and got run over. I was unfortunate enough to be on that bus and witness it So i had got on T54 at East Croydon and it was going down to Park Street, and suddenly.... BANG!! A man had run across the road and the bus hit him, There were screams from in the bus and some women were crying. We exited the bus and T54 had significant damage to its front windscreen. The driver was really scared (possibly of either being sanctioned or hitting the man). About 15 minutes later, the whole road was closed and The road was blocked by a DW on the 60 trying to get through when there was a VLA and poor T54 in the way. Fortunately, The man was still alive. I was speechless when it happened. It is the WORST experience i will ever have on a bus. This bus had recently come back from its refurb, and has only been in service for only 6 days, so that makes it worse. Have you ever been in a scenario like this or were you there when it happened?

How long will it take to repair the windscreen on this bus? Also, the man involved has been taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting, Croydon Advertiser says he has sustained life changing injuries. The man was wearing a grey hoody, I saw him lying on the ground but he was moving fortunately. Poor guy I hope he recovers soon.

Windscreens are usually repaired within hours, the bus may be sealed by the police but i recon they would just want the CCTV but dont quote me on that. I hope the injuries sustained by the victim arent too serious and hope the driver recovers from the incident.

This is why I believe we should have jay walking laws in this country. Prosecute those who do not use crossings. I've been in that situation, I mowed someone down on the 364's. Wasn't my fault and couldn't be avoided. But still took me 2 weeks before I could sleep properly without seeing the look on his face when I hit him.

What happens to a driver if they hit someone and wasn't their fault? @chazaroo Ive seen countries with underpasses so that they can't get hit by a bus or car, like Singapore.

I wonder if Steve80 or jay38a have ever been in this scenario Id imagine the police would look into it and then not prosecute the driver should it not be there fault. However i guess it would still go on the drivers record at the bus company

Too many people think they can just cross in front of a bus and expect it to stop or slow down for them.

A few years ago my wife and I won a holiday in Denmark. We're walking around Copenhagen on a Sunday morning, very little traffic about. My abiding memory was the locals observing the crossing signals, even when the road was empty. Love to see that over here-DUCK there's a flying pig!

I wonder if Steve80 or jay38a have ever been in this scenario @chazaroo Ive seen countries with underpasses so that they can't get hit by a bus or car, like Singapore. I am not a bus or car driver. However I have run into someone when cycling in central London. I have also just missed two people by millimetres when on my motorbike. This is purely because they didn't look or see me approaching. In one instance I yelled at the person to stand still so I didn't hit them. And then you get the drug addled who just step out and walk across roads completely oblivious to anything or anyone. I had that at Finsbury Park when filtering through traffic. Missed them by inches. It must be terrifying in a bus given its ability to inflict serious injury. I do recognise Chazaroo's "not being able to sleep properly" issue after an incident. I can recall every instance of hitting / nearly hitting someone. Shows that traumatic events imprint themselves on your memory. The Far East has something of an obsession with flyovers, subways and fencing everything off. It is extremely irritating having to walk six times the distance rather than being able to cross on the level. I believe Singapore has a jay walking rule < checks > - ah yes there are lots of rules in Singapore. I've not fallen foul of them but waiting for minutes to cross a quiet junction at night when there are NO vehicles moving is immensely irritating.

It was a gang fight outside ilford library and the police showed up so they all split and done a runner. Lucky for the guy I hit, his mate had already crossed so I was already braking when he ran from behind a double decker. I slammed him, otherwise it could have been a lot worse. I was cleared at the scene and work gave me time off.

I have never been involved in any such incident, but there are many stories at they tell you in training.
My own personal recolection was when I was 10, coming home from a day out with mum on a bus somewhere in Camden (I shall spare details) when we passed another bus of the same route which had stopped in the middle of the road. As we pulled further forward it became clear why, there was a chap in the road being resuscitated. A few days later and it was reported that he had died.

I'm afraid I'm someone who jaywalks regularly - the only difference though is I'm very safe when I'm doing it. I won't cross unless I'm absolutely sure that the next vehicle coming is a really good distance away. I also don't cross when the emergency services have their blue lights flashing regardless of how far away they are.
