The small saving grace is that the bus station has been retained after many many complaints about previous plans that abolished it. The "ski jump" element of the current bus station doesn't seem to survive in the indicative sketches.
It does seem, though, to be somewhat compromised by the highway plans as all the northern eastern end near the bridge will not used by buses so no direct run through by the 2, 36, 436 etc. Looks like they'll be looped round and then have to take part in a big battle out in to the traffic on Wandsworth Road. Yet again this is another cycling consultation which neglects to really explain the impacts on bus services even at this early stage. There's another consultation in late 2015.

These proposals are generic and similar to most the other Gyratory proposals that have come. One word to describe this proposal - horrific! The gyratory system may have incidents involving collisions between cyclists and motor vehicles but in terms of traffic levels, it's pretty easy to navigate most of the time. I can only see traffic levels increasing here as a result of all roads becoming two way resulting in less lanes for traffic to funnel into - there is potential for bottlenecks all over this proposal, especially on Kennington Lane. I'm glad they've seen sense in keeping the bus station but how it's laid out looks very awkward unlike the current one which IMO, is the best laid out bus station I've ever used. There is certainly no room on the map to include the 156's stand so I'd be interested to see where they move that too and that leads onto another point - they are clearly not expecting any routes to terminate here either by an extension, cut back or a short turn.

My initial thoughts are more positive than you guys I do expect that traffic will be worse. I'm also confused as to why the one way system around Kennington Lane and Harleyford Road has to be changed. But for pedestrians, it should be better as there's more space and crossing for them. Currently, its difficult to cross from the bus station to the Tesco Express and the other shops, on the other side of Wandsworth Road due to the fast moving traffic which has 5 lanes all for itself. And there's not much alternatives other than the shops there. As for the buses, my concern is the 156 and whether they would serve the same stop as the 344 going southbound. Also, where would they stand? Maybe they could put a stand on South Lambeth Place and send them around the loop. But it shouldn't be too much of a problem for the other buses.

I've only skimmed through it but it looks like a good move to me, these one way systems are relics from a bygone era

I've only skimmed through it but it looks like a good move to me, these one way systems are relics from a bygone era The problem is that I've not seen any evidence to suggest that one way systems are poor at keeping traffic moving - it's one way systems like these that help keep traffic moving. Same as the ones in Archway and Wandsworth. I can only see traffic get much more congested when these schemes are intregated..

Same as the ones in Archway and Wandsworth. I can only see traffic get much more congested when these schemes are intregated.. It's all about improving things for pedestrians and cyclists and not before time in my opinion. There is also a scheme for the Old Street roundabout which I think is open for consultation.

Guess what - another consultation report has been issued! This time on the consultation results for changing the gyratory and bus station at Vauxhall. consultations.tfl.gov.uk/roads/vauxhall-cross/user_uploads/vauxhall-consultation-report.pdfAlhough there seems to be support for improving the road layout there is quite a lot of concern from various stakeholders and groups about the effect on the bus station. Lots of demands that it is preserved and that stops are not scattered around the area. Let's hope TfL listen!

Shame that every new bit of TfL construction has the same identikit box of parts - triangular box shape over LU stn entrances, glass skeletal roofs and square archways at LU stn entrances. So uninspiring. When I first looked at the sketch I thought it was the future Old St or Elephant and Castle.

So uninspiring. When I first looked at the sketch I thought it was the future Old St or Elephant and Castle. The bus station impressions were in the original page since 2014. TfL need to stop designing based on the obvious " everything looks the same so we can maintain it at a lower cost" mantra. No unique qualities for new or refurbished station. Train interiors are another one that annoy me with the whole " every train looking a like" style (I do fear the Jubilee Lines interior is next to be ruined with the deep level theme).

Interesting - I'm not the only one against the removal of gyratory system judging by the comments made by local resident groups. Of course, their comments will be completely ignored but it's nice to know there's some people with the same view as myself - a minute consolation but one I didn't expect.

Vauxhall was initiated in 1950, and apart from the new bus station, seemed to be working OK for 60 odd years. As has been said, Aldgate, Archway, TCR,Wandsworth and the Elephant kept the traffic moving. My only grouch was there was not better 'policing' of the Wandsworth west bound leading up to Putney. Some traders would be seen parking all day. I'm old enough to remember when both the Wandsworth and TCR were introduced in the 1960's it was to improve traffic flow. What I wonder are the hidden costs encountered thru all the upheavals? Extra fuel, late deliveries etc.
