If the safety of the train was never in question I'm not sure what the problem is here. Ironically the staff had given up their time to support the poppy appeal. Sounds like another own goal by the rail industry quite honestly.

from Go-Ahead Website News say: 21 Dec 2018 Southeastern Direct Award Contract Extension The Department for Transport (DfT) has confirmed a 12-week extension to the current Southeastern franchise, from 1 April 2019 to 22 June 2019. David Statham, Southeastern's Managing Director, said: “We’re proud to have delivered significant investment and improvements in the railway for customers over the life of our franchise. We introduced the incredibly successful highspeed service – Britain’s first - which slashed journey times between London and Kent, we’ve introduced more services and we’re pleased to have improved customer satisfaction and punctuality.” “We commenced a new Direct Award contract in 2014 and we haven’t stopped working hard to deliver even more for customers, including £70m in train and station refurbishments, smartcard tickets, and 5000 extra seats.” “Over this next extension period, our focus remains squarely on our customers, delivering more improvements and providing the best possible service.” Govia is shortlisted for the next South Eastern franchise to be awarded by the DfT, which is expected to commence on 23 June 2019.

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned before or if any of you are aware that Southeastern operates a M-F parliamentary service that stops at Wandsworth Road and Clapham High Street (05:50 London Victoria-Ashford International). Anyone know how long it’s been running for? I found it in the previous TT last year but don’t know about earlier ones. Am I right in assuming it would have replaced the old South London Line service that stopped when the London Overground service started.

Wonder if it is a 'parliamentary service' as such, or done for route learning/retention purposes. There's a one per day Overground service to/from Battersea Park too. IIRC it's late evening from Battersea Park, and that can't be for route learning for Overground drivers, I'd have thought.

I thought the Battersea Park section was there in case the service couldn’t reach Clapham Junction for any reason

I thought the Battersea Park section was there in case the service couldn’t reach Clapham Junction for any reason Correct. It allows the use of Battersea Park as a reversing point in such circumstances - which sadly happen all too frequently given the parlous state of the track between Wandsworth Rd and Clapham Junction plus failures of freight trains. London Overground have no running rights into Victoria station - only as far as Battersea Park. A plan to add a LO service from Beckenham Junction to Victoria was killed off by the last Labour government who forced Boris Johnson, as Mayor, to make a choice between LO services reaching Clapham Junction or funding extra South Eastern services to part replace the old South London Line service. They would not countenance LO reaching Victoria and Clapham Junction as they wouldn't fund the capital cost *and* the revenue loss on the South Eastern franchise that would result from having a revenue sharing arrangement on flows into London Victoria. Such is party politics!

I thought the Battersea Park section was there in case the service couldn’t reach Clapham Junction for any reason As it happens, this weekend the entire service will be running to Battersea Park instead of CJ from 2045 Saturday and all day Sunday. Looks like that driver training will be put to good use.

Really not a good week for Southeastern (and their passengers) There was also a passenger incident at Crayford, a bridge strike in the Medway Towns and a broken down train at Erith this morning in addition to the ongoing landslip near Barnehurst.
