Some operators - Edinburgh Corporation, Greater Glasgow PTE and Tyne and Wear PTE (to give their old names [1]) - opted for what is called the Panoramic window style on Alexander bodies. That's what's on the bus on the left. Needless to say I travelled on lots of such Atlanteans in Tyne and Wear. Some of the Glasgow panoramic Atlanteans made it to London in the early days of tendering, although they were well past their best. London Country certainly used them for a while on the 51. I remember them on the 51. A couple lasted long enough to receive Kentish bus livery, but generally these were unloved heaps that didn't hang around long.

Just because of the Watford and Hendon Way really.

Just because of the Watford and Hendon Way really. But it's not an express route or even a limited stopping route - it stops at every stop so giving it an 'X' prefix would make no sense.

It's a fast route, indeed I had a very lively ride on it yesterday, but I can't see any logic in that when it serves all stops.

Could the C2 eventually become 82 if/when the latter is withdrawn/renumbered 13? Just a thought

Does anyone else think that with the decimation of the 87 group in east London; the 387 will appear again but in west London after the ELT changes?

They could, but I doubt they will look at grouping it towards the 87 or 187/487 unless a situation arose that a new routeing were required in the vicinity, which I sadly don't see happening. With the cuts coming to central London, I would have thought they would wait to modify a prefix service and renumber it so... then again how long is it since we've had a 218*/239*/278? *rumoured introductions notwithstanding.

Out of those three, the 239 was the most recent one. It last ran as a Clapham Junction to Victoria route in 2009 when the 170 was extended from Clapham Junction over it to Victoria. The 278 last ran as a Kidbrooke Estate circular in 2004 connecting Lewisham & the Kidbrooke Estate before the 178 was extended from Kidbrooke Station to Lewisham. As for the 218, it's actually still around sort of and in fact, was nearly lost in the recent Abellio Surrey route surrenders - it last was a London route in 1986 running between Kingston & Staines (Thorpe Park seasonal extension on Sundays) before transferring to London Country South West. It kept it's route number until Abellio Surrey renumbered it 458 to which it still runs but now under Hallmark Connections.

I already knew that vjaska (it was sort of a rhetorical, reposte) but thank you, you always provide excellent help here :-)
